"Hell to the no"

"Totes"

"Amazeballs"

(the last two combined)

"Chillax"

"My bad"

"Cray cray"

Surely nobody over the age of 15 should use these words in a serious context (even in a joking context if I'm totally honest)

I have this week heard them all used at work by professional, otherwise intelligent people. Please don't tell me it's me that wants to stuff the nearest bit of junk mail into their pie hold every time they speak like this.

Wordsaremything, that's reminded me of another gripe of mine! People who say yourself or myself when they mean you or me. Grrr...

VoyagerII · 30/10/2014 21:42

Oh I thought there was a reason for "station stop" - they used to say "next stop" and then when the train stopped outside the station, like when it's waiting for a platform, people used to try to get off down onto the track thinking the train was at the station.

AlbaGuBrath · 30/10/2014 21:50

I give you... People who refer to themselves in third person. Or say me instead of I, especially "me thinks". I always feel like responding "I thinks you're a twat".

This thread has made me realise I'm quite intolerant of stupidity

'Thinking outside the box'

What fucking box? Where is the box?

'I'll ping you an email'

Ping me?! Is it necessary to be so violent? Can you not just send it?

Same as 'I'll give you a buzz'

Are you a frigging bee?

FoxgloveFairy · 31/10/2014 04:15

Oh yeah, thinking outside the box. Or 'blue sky' thinking. Makes me do some kicked arse thinking to be honest.

FoxgloveFairy · 31/10/2014 04:17

Another one: the mimed phone to the ear, indicating call me. Call you what? Wanker? Already done it.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 31/10/2014 07:08

Step change. What is it?

Step up to the plate. What plate? Have you made me dinner but not provided any seats?

Going forward. What's wrong with 'in the future'?

TheLastThneed · 31/10/2014 07:18

I absolutely HATE 'my bad' Angry Everyone has started using it all of a sudden. Annoyed.com #arghhhhh

Pointlessfan · 31/10/2014 07:44

The more of these I read and agree with the more I think of! I hate it at work when people say they need to "flag something up" to me. No, you need to tell me something, unless we start to use semaphore there are no flags!

ovaryhill · 31/10/2014 08:19

Take a shower,or jump in the shower, you are not taking the shower anywhere, nor are you standing in it jumping up and down!!!!!!!
I want to cave dh head in every time he goes to 'jump in the shower'!

ovaryhill · 31/10/2014 08:23

In fact I sometimes passively aggressively go and run the tap in the kitchen Grin (now you're jumping)

AlbaGuBrath · 31/10/2014 08:27

I use jump in the shower/bath ?? am I about to be kicked off my own thread.

Can I grab a .....?

Why not just take it?

SuburbanRhonda · 31/10/2014 09:19

Men's fashion article with Amir Khan commenting on an outfit worn by Lenny Kravitz:

"I love anyone who can rock a leather pant"

TweenageAngst · 31/10/2014 11:48

Nom Nom - seriously! I hope you choke on it. #pethate

MiddletonPink · 31/10/2014 12:05

Nom nom is awful. I hate yum yum and yummy just as much.

Firsttimer7259 · 31/10/2014 12:18

As an ardent buffy fan I say 'my bad', I love saying it and I say it with a jaunty americanness that has the subtext of 'oops ... Im not sorry at all'

Im old, Im not cool, Im probably in the category of grown up, intelligent and serious. I dont say any of the other ones
But will keep saying 'my bad' cos it makes me happy.

Pointlessfan · 31/10/2014 12:34

Rocking a leather pant is just ridiculous!

Ugh! Yes, passionate is awful!

LineRunner · 31/10/2014 13:13

Yes, whatever happened to 'quite keen on'?

catlover97 · 31/10/2014 13:49

People who say "your one" or "my one" rather than yours or mine. Unnecessary extra words!

ArtDecoGhoulie · 31/10/2014 19:01

I loathe the use of 'mine' and 'yours' rather than'my house' or 'your house'
Ach.

Oops, we all talk like that round here (North East) "What time are you coming to mine?" It's always been that, and I'm old! Blush

lavenderhoney · 31/10/2014 19:13

Hollibobs. Just no.

I haven't had the misfortune to hear cray cray but can only assume whoever said it was too pissed to speak. And thought they were a crow. Or something.

Chill. When you have a perfectly normal flap about something and someone says " chill" or Chillax. It leads me to believe they don't understand the gravity of the situation

And "'thanks for reaching out" no, I'm not reaching out. I am booking a meeting. And when it's from a more senior person, I can only think of dads dancing and trying to be cool and get down with the kids.

ohmymimi · 31/10/2014 19:35

Top hole thread lads and lassies, jolly hockey sticks, eh what! I'm a bit peckish, though, so I'm toddling orf for a cuppa cha and a tiffin. Toodle pip, chummies, tah tah.
