To think that DH is being a bit strange?

He won't eat the top 'pointy' bit of a banana -he breaks almost 1/4 of the banana off and throws it away. His reason - its horrible and all spikey!

Never noticed the spikeyness myself so passing it over to mumsnet. Is it normal to eat the top of a banana or is it normal to break it off and is it indeed spikey as DH suggests?

I eat a banana every day, and I've never noticed a "spikey" part. I sometimes don't eat the bottom, if it's mushy, but I just leave it in the peel.

mouselittle · 24/10/2014 19:05

Your DH is definitely being UR then for thinking the spiky part is at the top and not the bottom Grin

I got told as a child if you ate the bottom of a banana it would grow a banana tree inside you.

Peel bananas like this www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Eat-a-Banana-Like-a-Monkey/ and then you can leave the nasty little top bit in the skin and throw it away without wasting a lot!

AccidentallyInLove · 24/10/2014 19:11

I don't eat the top or the bottom either!

OwlWearingSunglasses · 24/10/2014 19:25

I've always eaten the whole banana apart from the skin.

That goes in the compost
or on the front step if OH continues being an arse

In Ivory Coast (husband's country of birth) they grow tons and tons of bananas. He must have eaten thousands. Have just asked him, and he says they never ever eat that pointy bit, but chuck it away. He says it's bitter-tasting and nobody in their right mind would eat it.

Woah awesome first hand banana knowledge hatespiders

Absolutely PMSL at "cut the ends off sausages"

mouselittle · 24/10/2014 20:45

This thread is going to revolutionise the peeling and eating of bananas.

pigsDOfly · 24/10/2014 20:47

Ah I understand now. No of course nobody would eat that nasty bitter bit it's vile, but I don't think it's necessary to waste half the banana in order to avoid it.

Clearly I've been eating bananas the wrong way round all my life; bought some today so will give it a go the other/right way this evening.

Penfold007 · 24/10/2014 20:52

YABU no one should eat the ends of a banana it's just wrong.
