GP told me I have piles and there is nothing to be done

I was in hospital two years ago, pretty serious. In intensive care and all the drugs gave me lots of horrendous diarrhoea, bed pan every half hour- poor nurses!
Since then I have had a bit of extra skin on my anus, went to see GP this morning and she told me it is piles and there is nothing to be done. I have no current symptoms or issues with my bowels. I'm 23, no kids, how will I every let a guy see my bum? It doesn't look like the pictures of piles on the internet. It is more a line/flap of extra skin but it doesn't look normal and now I am worried I will never be able to have doggy style ever again. I have just met a guy after being single since before my illness and we haven't had sex yet but he is also young and no kids- which means he is probably expecting a normal looking bum Sad he keeps telling me how great my body is and he can't wait to see me naked etc but I feel like as soon as I take my pants off he's going to be hugely turned off and run away.

So aibu to think this can't be it, I can't have a hideous bum hole for the next fifty years? Is there really nothing that can be done to improve the appearance and has anyone ever been in this situation? I appreciate that piles are fairly common especially after child birth and If I was married then the appearance probably wouldn't bother me as compared to the google pictures it is pretty inoffensive.

I don't think I've ever seen my husbands bum hole or it hasn't registered.

Unless you're into anal I can't see how it would come up?

yellowdinosauragain · 24/10/2014 12:17

Sounds like a skin tag. Sometimes they indicate piles inside, sometimes they don't. Ask your gp for a referral to a Colorectal surgeon for them to assess you. There may well be something they can do, including cutting the skin tag /pile off with a short general anaesthetic if you're fit for that. It's very common. (I work in a job with experience in this)

NeedABumChangeNotANameChange · 24/10/2014 12:21

Not into anal, never tried it, don't really intend to but a man must see your bum hole during doggy? Tmi but my ex used to spread the cheeks so he must have seen it Blush Or when he goes down on you? General naked frolicking does mean occasionally flashing of bits I'd think- but then I've never seen all of that from the man perspective Confused

mypoorbot · 24/10/2014 12:22

Agreed, sounds like a skin tag - easily solved. Your GP doesn't sounds that good to be honest.

I'd swap your skin tag with my persistent anal fistula in a heartbeat Sad ~cries~

NeedABumChangeNotANameChange · 24/10/2014 12:23

Thanks yellow but definitely not a skintag as that is what I thought it was but was told no it is piles but it is not "active" or something.

To be honest, as you say it isn't causing you any pain or discomfort and isn't causing any physical problems, I'll be amazed if the GP would agree to a surgical referral...so many services have been scaled right back these days

ithoughtofitfirst · 24/10/2014 12:26

I want to see what a nice bumhole looks like Grin

NeedABumChangeNotANameChange · 24/10/2014 12:27

Anal fistula sounds dreadful bot. GP is quite rude, most things get a response of "it happens to everyone at some point" or "let's review in three months". When I walked in the door and sat down she asked if I had come about my acne- I have two pimples on my face!

girlywhirly · 24/10/2014 12:27

Well, everyone's anus will look slightly different in the same way as everyone's nipples are different, so I doubt that anyone would be put off by it. In fact, I doubt he'd notice in the heat of the moment. Try to think of it as different rather than abnormal.

I would suggest that you are careful not to get constipated and that you use moist toilet wipes after toilet paper when you've been to the loo, because if you have piles, even dormant ones you need to prevent any irritation that will cause a recurrence.

WorraLiberty · 24/10/2014 12:30

Have a look at this link OP

I think your GP is right not to want to risk removing it.

NeedABumChangeNotANameChange · 24/10/2014 12:30

Tbh ringo I thought there must be a cream or something to shrink the skin back or even a stitch under local! but then I have no medical background! certainly wasn't thinking of surgery!

Nice bum hole would be perfectly puckered and beautifully bleached according to ladsmags ithoughtofitfirst

yellowdinosauragain · 24/10/2014 12:32

My advice to ask for a Colorectal referral stands if it's a pile. Or whatever it is around your bum.

I also agree with everyone who says it's highly likely no one except you would either notice or care though.

mypoorbot · 24/10/2014 12:33

Needabum Lads mags are the last thing you need to read to determine whether you "make the cut". This coming from a "lad". It's all a load of bollocks. Wink

NeedABumChangeNotANameChange · 24/10/2014 12:34

Yes worra that sound exactly what I have Grin

OP posts:
yellowdinosauragain · 24/10/2014 12:37

It's not the gp decision though worra given that it won't be them removing it. Referral to a surgeon who deals with this all the time means the op can have a proper discussion about this and make an informed decision based on the risks and chances of success.

I'd never have this done myself and it certainly could be left alone but if it's causing significant upset to the op it's worth a referral and discussion. And we see loads and loads of people like her so it's not unusual.

yellowdinosauragain · 24/10/2014 12:37

But mypoorbot has it spot on about the lads mags.

Happyringo · 24/10/2014 12:37

Sorry I just meant referral to a surgeon as someone suggested...not necessarily surgery! If it's not causing physical problems I reckon it's best left alone...everyone's anatomy is different, I doubt many people have perfectly rounded and bleached bumholes! I used to work in sexual health and have seen all shapes and sizes...all perfectly normal. We had a huge number of people coming in worrying about how their bodies didn't look like what they thought everyone else's looked like...I think media plays a large part in this.

NeedABumChangeNotANameChange · 24/10/2014 12:38

Anyone else happy to admit to having this? Please come a tell me no one has minded...

Are you sure it's unsightly? Often things in that area feel bigger than they are (I'm thinking of a terrible varicose vein I had in pregnancy).

Perhaps you could get a mirror and check it out. I'm sure it's not going to stick out like a sore bum thumb.

maras2 · 24/10/2014 12:41

Do you know,I've been having 'doggy' style sex with DH for 48 years and have never even thought about what DH thinks about the state of my anus. It's certainly changed over the years from a pink puckered thingy in my youth to a big, saggy knobbly haemorrhoidy thing after babies.I wouldn't be too worried though because by the time you get round to DTD he'll be gagging for it and be delighted that you want to do 'doggy'. Grin Must agree with others that it sounds more like an anal tag rather than haemorrhoids.Anyway, good luck and best wishes for your future sex life.

maras2 · 24/10/2014 12:43

Damn you auto correct.it's certainly changed over the years

yellowdinosauragain · 24/10/2014 12:48

Op one thing to think about. Would you seriously want to be with a man who decided to be with you based on what your anus looks like?

NeedABumChangeNotANameChange · 24/10/2014 12:48

I forgot the the lads mags also want everything waxed. We had a "pants on" sleep over and he stroked my hairy legs and that didn't bother me ( or him)- I don't strive to be what the lad mags want but well my bum seems to have bought out different feelings in myself.
I've had a mirror out, that's how I knew it was there. Like I said it's not hideous but it just doesn't look "normal".

Sounds like a skin tag, I had one removed in 2011, Not pleasant but so much better now x
