To think you might as well stay at home

and play the music in the background if you are going to talk all the way through a concert?

I went to a gig last night and a couple in the row in front of us turned up late, part through the headliner's set, immediately got their phones out and started filming then proceeded to talk to each other loudly (to be heard over the music).

Why did they not just stay at home? I had to ask them to keep it down as it was really distracting and I got looked at though I had two heads.

I really don't understand why they spent good money on tickets to treat the act like they were on in the background in their home rather than performing in front of them.

And what is with filming on your phone? They were both watching via their phones, held out in front of them, distractingly in the field of vision of others, when the stage was only a short distance away and clearly visible.

And calm thoughts......!

This would annoy me too. I was at a gig in the summer which was seemingly full of people preferring to film thru their phones rather than actually soak up the experience at hand.

I hate that phone thing. I've even seen it in the cinema.

To my childrens extreme embarrassment I now persist in asking people to put them away until they do.

At a sporting event this summer the person in front of me insisted on holding up an ipad and a phone while wearing an enormous hat! Just bloody rude.

I take it no-one said anything?

wowfudge · 24/10/2014 09:19

Nanny I asked them if they could keep it down (the talking) as it was distracting. My friend who I was with was about to say something and she would have been far ruder more blunt than me. The filming happened twice during the time they were there so I didn't comment on that, but I would have done if it had been constant. Part way through the guy went to the bar and the woman was on Facebook the whole time he was away!

This is why I don't do concerts, they obviously have money to burn!

It may not have been the case here and it sounds as if they were rude anyway, but a friend of mine always filmed her daughter at sporting events on her ipad and watched the ipad.

She was quite seriously visually impaired - she could see the close up ipad screen, but couldn't see her daughter competing several dozen yards away at all.
