Maybe it's my (40-something) age and the fact that I've got a bit fatter (was size 10-12 now 12-14), but I've had enough of flimsy pants! Walking around in public pulling your underwear out of your backside is not a good look. Weirdly, the best ones I found were cartoon Wonderwoman ones from Debenhams! They had really sturdy hems that actually stayed in place. But the last time I bought some they'd changed the fabric and now they've gone all stretchy and useless! Waaah! I don't want granny pants (or hi leg); boy shorts are my favourite style. They definitely have to be cotton though. Anyone got any recommendations? I can't be the only one with this problem can I? Hmm

I know most people want cotton but the Tesco seamless no vpl pants in the sort of shiny microfiber are great. No bum creepage and I can even play rugby and ride in them without them ending up wedged between my arse crack

SurfsUp1 · 24/10/2014 00:41

Just wear a G-string. Problem solved!

ScarlettlovesRhett · 24/10/2014 00:46

These pants are the only pants worth getting imo.

I love them - the lace bit is elasticated, so looks nice, but feels substantial, and there is good gusset and arse coverage!

They're a bit pricey, but well worth it.

paxtecum · 24/10/2014 06:15

I'm a granny and have worn granny pants for years, despite having a drawer full of lacey knickers.
Sloggis maxi are wonderful. No side seams, just one seam at the back which doesn't disappear into my bum crack.

I buy them when they are reduced and they last for years.

MrsMook · 24/10/2014 06:59

Another M&S high leg multi pack fan. They are wide enough at the back to keep to the correct side of the gluteus maximius.
Where I completely flounder is matching to knickers. Apparently I am very absolutely completely unreasonable for wanting to match a 34b and comfy size 8 pants. The only sets that look appropriate turn out to be on the plus size stands. I don't want the cs overhang flobbling its saggy skin over the tops of my pants, nor the permo-wedgie.

VillaVillekulla · 24/10/2014 07:12

Another vote for M&S midis.

GhettoFabulous · 24/10/2014 07:38

I have Debenhams high waist one, fantastic, smooth line under clothes. I asked my daughter how she liked my granny pants, and she said "those aren't even granny pants, they're just going too far!"

outofcontrol2014 · 24/10/2014 07:52

Having got entirely sick of this dilemma, and fortified by the fact that other people on Mumsnet had done the same, I bought myself a pack of soft cotton granny knickers from M&S.

They are godawful to look at, but I no longer have VPL, and I am soooooo comfortable.

Calvaise · 24/10/2014 08:01

Ooh, MrsMook, don't let the bra people hear you say you're a 34b and a size 8!!

Mulligrubs · 24/10/2014 09:39

Another one in post-c-section granny pants that go up to your waist and are 2 sizes too big. My c-section was nearly a year ago Blush I recommend the Asda full briefs with lace waistband if you really want to ensure your arse won't eat them Smile

magimedi · 24/10/2014 09:46

Another vote for Sloggi - I've been wearing the Basic Midi for at least 30 years & wouldn't wear anything else! No crack problems at all. And they can be washed at 90C - so if you have an infection you can be sure they are really cleaned.

kittykarate · 24/10/2014 09:47

M & S Midis. Don't quite go up to your belly button (unlike proper granny pants) but don't get butt munched or roll down over my sizeable belly. It really frustrates me that only M&S seem to make a midi style.

Hi-legs are ok, but I find my gut hanging over the top of them by the end of the day as they are a bit lower in front.

Gatekeeper · 24/10/2014 09:56

these are fab

DayLillie · 24/10/2014 10:11

I have been a fan of M&S midi (one size up) for years. Kept everything covered and no VPL But since they got over-fixated on shorts, the gusset has narrowed and some of them end up up my bum, with one cheek hanging out.

I used to buy a pack with 1 white, 1 black and 3 beige, but since they discontinued that, all you can buy is patterns in 'granny' colours. (If you look at the other 5-pack knickers and then at these, it is obvious that they are aiming them at a stereotypical lady of a certain age).

They also seem to be thinner.

I still keep buying them, and have a drawer full of lacy stuff that does not get worn. I have found a lacy pair of shorts that I like, though.

I can't stand it which is why I wear thongs.
You don't have that problem because they are already up your arse!

Grin

DrElizabethPlimpton · 24/10/2014 10:24

If you want to spend a extra ££'s I find the Elle McPherson range are lovely and last well. They don't do the bum munch!

thedudesmummy · 24/10/2014 12:47

Sadly as I get saggier older I find it's not only the bum creep but also the rolling down under the tummy in the front that makes me uncomfy. I have given in to the granny pants (M and S cotton full brief in fact, in a size up) and although it looks terrifying it feels so good and no VPl, tugging etc.

bonkersLFDT20 · 24/10/2014 13:00

You have to find which style of pants suits your figure. What sits nicely on one woman's arse may ride up yours!

I mainly wear bikini as they are not too huge, but have a full bum on them.
Not that I am large of buttock at all, more rounded and pert (I am a runner) than small and flat.

Shorts don't cover my cheeks, though some are OK - if they have stay-put (rubbery?) stuff on the hems, but I HATE the ones with a seam up the middle of the front. The seam gets stuck up my vulva and front wedgies are even worse than back wedgies IMO!

I love tanga briefs - bikini fit but with narrow bands at the sides. Can't find them in M&S any more.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/10/2014 13:04

I know people like cotton, I used to, but these microfibre shorts don't move. They have a cotton gusset so you don't sweat, get thrush etc. I try other knickers but always end up going back to these.

DustBunnyFarmer · 24/10/2014 14:03

Inspired by this thread, I was just browsing the granny pants section of M&S. I didn't realise the customer reviews ask for an age range - I would be giving into a much older demographic if I go with the recommendations on this thread, although no-one but DH sees my knickers so who cares?

carrie74 · 24/10/2014 14:03

I wrote off M&S pants about 5 years ago when they were still charging the same as they used to but quality seemed more Primark.

I started on Gap, which were great, but not a massive selection. I now wear Victorias Secret pants (bikinis or boy shorts) and stock up when in the US (they usually do 5 for $26, although when I was in NYC recently, the assistant was handing out vouchers for 7for $26. Bargain).

bonkersLFDT20 · 24/10/2014 14:30

IHave THANKS! They look lovely.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 24/10/2014 16:05

Yep - this is why I wear g strings

It's gonna disappear up yer arse anyway, so it might as well only be a teeny bit of fabric Grin

buggerthebotox · 24/10/2014 17:52

Yes to a g string. But not any old one. Primark do great ones, imo. As others have pointed out, they're already up your backside, so no humiliating pulling and tugging in public.
