Popped over to my neighbour's house this morning to give them a parcel that I had signed for earlier. A few mums were having a coffee morning and I was invited in for a cuppa. There was a small baby, maybe 6 months old, crying in a maxi cosy car seat but the dc's mum was not in the room so one of the my neighbour's friends took baby out of the seat to give him a cuddle. However baby was frantic and didn't calm down so I offered to hold him. Luckily baby calmed down and I held him until his dm came into the room when I handed him over immediately.
However now I am second guessing myself wondering if I acted out of turn as I had never met mum or her baby before so she might have thought who the hell is that stranger cuddling my baby? Am a bit mortified so please tell me gently if I was bu. I would never have taken the baby out of the car ( maybe she thinks that I did??) seat but as he didn't seem to calm down when the other lady held him I wanted to help.
