virgin trains

We have booked tickets with them and now need to add an extra child to the journey.
They will not let me do this at the railcard price and insist I either pay the full child fare or return all my tickets via recorded delivery at my expense and pay a £10 handling fee.
I have spoken to two people who refuse to help because the computer won't let them.
Blasted Virgin trains, never booking with them again.

Whenever I've used them and have booked tickets - they've not put seat reservations on anyway. Train from Liverpool to London - no one knew which seats were taken and which were free and there were plenty of arguments about it.

I emailed to complain but did not receive a response.

they were terrible when i flew with them as well.

To be fair, I doubt their computer systems have the ability to buy a child family railcard ticket without also buying an accompanying adult ticket. Their solution sounds quite reasonable to me - sorry.

londonrach · 20/10/2014 16:50

I think the solution they offered is good as the seats near your original tickets might have gone. You wouldnt want your son sitting in a different carriage to you. Better to start from beginning. Sorry. X

I can understand the difficulty with adding a child to the booking.

Leaving reservation labels off isn't on though. Passengers don't book seats so that they can scramble for seats in a free for all.

marcheliza I dont think virgin use paper things on seats to reserve seats - they use little tiny digital screens by the window that I didn't even realise existed until they were pointed out to me could it have been that?

BlotOnTheLandscape · 20/10/2014 17:02

They should be able to override the computer system though!
Anyway, on the 4th attempt I spoke to somebody sensible and they have given me a 50% discount code to order the ticket for the extra child; it only took an hour on the phone.

The price and availability of a seat changes from day to day. YABU.
