to like these wedding favours?

Okay, you caught me, not really an AIBU but I enjoy the varied responses on this board

Best friend's getting married, no idea what her favours will be but the boyfriend and I were talking about what we'd like (as you do when you're bored )

Anyway, I really like the idea of simple venetian style masks for each guest as a keepsake. Especially if it fit into the overall look of the day.

What are your favourite (or most hated!!) favours received at a wedding?

The masks come into the category of useless tat that will go in the bin tbh. If you must have favours, have something cheap like a bowl of sweets, and spend the rest of the money on extra wine. Same goes for chair covers, table decorations, naming tables, wedding cars and innumerable other wedding tat/things you would never spend that sort of money on.

I wouldn't like a mask - unless it was an actual nice one from Venice otherwise they verge on a bit tacky

I went to a wedding this weekend where we got heart fudge, just married rock and coins, bubbles, party poppers, hand made chutney and a blow up seagull

Best favours have got to be lotto tickets/scratchcards. Or perhaps a charity pin badge.

Anything else is pointless. And I say that as someone who had stupid frilly ones at my wedding. Thanks mum.

Think the masks would be a bit crap to be honest, sorry sweetpea - people wouldn't keep them thinking they are lovely, they would bin them.

Best ones we ever had at a wedding was playdoh! It was great fun creating various things at the table and the Bride gave a prize after the speechs for the best creation. After the wedding I think their kids kept the playdoh

Worst one was a very small wedding (I was a plus one, they are DPs friends) They gave everyone a fruit tree. Would have been nice but for their deadly serious requirement that every anniversary you gave them a pic of it and how it had grown and eventually were expected to give them a gift of the fruit...it was all about how fertile their love was blah blah blah. Sorry but who would really want to do that annually for someone? t'was daft.

Nobody else wants a keepsake of your day. Except maybe your mother if she likes your DH.

I know it would be tacky, but my family are always up for a laugh and rather theatrical so I imagine they would love it

Goodboy really makes a good point - it's true that no one else really wants a keepsake of your day. If you take away and have to store a decorative item for every wedding you attend, you'll soon be over-run.

Conversely I love the idea of the fruit tree - however not the expectation that people should provide a running update on its well-being or supply produce as a result!

I would be a bit and wouldn;t want to wear it over makeup but I am fussy about my face AND I hate masks.

Loved the miniature bottle of perfume I got recently, and also one last year where I got a miniature bottle of vodka!

i had gypsiphilia (spelling?) seeds at mine, in little matchbook style thingys, not sure if anyone ever planted any

still have some - should see if they are still viable 15 years later

Also love the instant photo booths where you can get snapshots of you & your friends/family, I have a lot of fun with those

My friend told us all to take the flower arrangements off the tables! She said she'd spent enough and wasn't wasting all those lovely flowers!

Gave candles out at ours ... with a sticker on it with our wedding date etc (removable so they can use the candle)

One wedding I went to gave slate coasters with a drawing of the church, the names of the couple, and the date. The church was very significant to the bride, and she has since sadly died and been buried there. I treasure those coasters, and even before the sentiment kicked in, thought it was a lovely idea.

Nope. I'd put it in the bin tbh. Ditto anything with your names and date on it like pens etc.

I really don't get favours. They're just party bags for adults aren't they. Why not give them some haribo and a balloon and be done with it

Because vodka is better than Haribo. Just.

Our favours were miniature bottles of whisky and Baileys, and a netted bag with a selection of chocs in. Basically, everyone ended up legless

Don't like sugared almonds.

We let everyone take our flowers, balloons and I let some guests have the glass bowls. Yes, we paid for them.

Personalised mini bottles of champagne. Best wedding ever!

I didnt bother for the over 18s as we had a free bar. Kiddy bags for under 10s and necklaces for two 14 year old girls.

Masks would go straight in the charity bag.
