Okay, you caught me, not really an AIBU but I enjoy the varied responses on this board Grin

Best friend's getting married, no idea what her favours will be but the boyfriend and I were talking about what we'd like (as you do when you're bored Hmm Grin )

Anyway, I really like the idea of simple venetian style masks for each guest as a keepsake. Especially if it fit into the overall look of the day.

What are your favourite (or most hated!!) favours received at a wedding?

my favours were Marie Curie daffodils.
I bought them in the march during the daffodil appeal and got the large fabric ones.
It was lovely seeing everyone wearing them on their suits and dresses in the photos.
I actually based my flower colours to include yellow so they fitted in beautifully.

(in memory of my grandmother who passed away in the Marie curie hospice)

We did mini eggs rather than sugared almonds.

But I'm an egg producer so it made people chuckle!

Sarsaparillajones · 20/10/2014 20:02

I think I am the only person here that likes sugar almonds! And bugger not eating them - My Dsis got married recently and I ate pretty much everyones almonds ....... Mmmmmm

PetuliaGristle · 20/10/2014 20:07

Our favours were the Cancer Research cards and pin badges, the Jenny Packham dove and shooting stars, plus party bags for the children.

sunflower49 · 20/10/2014 20:15

I'd be amused to get a mask and they'd provide table conversation I guess.

Best favours I have ever had, winter wedding-cute xmas decorations (little fairy or something I think it was).

Mini bottles of booze

Herbal teabag with its own strainer.

Can't think of any 'worst' ones.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/10/2014 20:22

We had sugared almonds and I like them too.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 20/10/2014 20:27

This is ideal

favours

We had vintage lady bird books. I tried to find one for each guest that suited them. Had another pile of ladybird books on each table and encouraged guests to swap if they wanted. Everyone (I hope) loved them, it was a brilliant opener for the tables and there was lots of swapping going on.

I prefer edible things really though, I just wanted to be different, plus if we'd have had sweets I would have eaten them all several times over before the day!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 20/10/2014 20:29

My DB had lovehearts at his wedding, my Dsis had candles.

louloudoodah · 20/10/2014 20:34

Alcohol or sweeties are the only way.
And proper lotto tickets/scratchies. Not those charity things you have to spend ages dicking about ringing up and posting off to claim your £3

Anything with names and dates sadly gets left behind

squoosh · 20/10/2014 20:34

I might accidentally on purpose leave a Venetian mask on the table.

Booze miniatures are definitely my favourite favour. I never forget to take them.

kungfupannda · 20/10/2014 20:38

I think tiny favours are best. I've had all sorts of things - engraved shot glasses etc - but the only ones I kept were the little wine-glass decorations DP and I were given at my oldest friend's wedding, and an embroidered place card from the wedding of a family member. Both went into a jar of random memorabilia and I still have them.

I probably wouldn't even bring the mask home, to be honest.

harverina · 20/10/2014 20:38

My friends had novelty glasses and sunglasses at their wedding last year in place of favours. They were good fun and a good icebreaker Grin

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 20/10/2014 20:47

How about a venetian style mask made from sweets, I'd eat that happily.

CornChips · 20/10/2014 21:01

Best favours we ever got were little packets of English cottage garden seeds. The bride and groom were both fairly new migrants who have embraced England and so they put out packets of foxgloves, hollyhocks, Queen Anne's lace etc. So lovely, and i scattered the seeds in my garden and they look beautiful.

zukiecat · 20/10/2014 21:02

I would like a small keepsake of any wedding I attended. A lottery ticket or scratchcard would go straight in the bin, as I hate them, so I'd love a Venetian Mask!

I attended my first wedding in 19 years earlier this year, we were all given little handbag trinkets to match the colour scheme, and I loved it!

Nofunkingworriesmate · 20/10/2014 21:06

I'd find a mask creepy and would not want to take it home, agree I don't want a keepsake of anyone's wedding, photos are sufficient
...We did not have favours or table decorations just named tables with photos in frames which were nice for our new home

Sweets crocs seagulls all geat idea

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/10/2014 21:07

I would agree with those saying something you can use up, rather than a keepsake, I'd rather just have photos to remember the day by.

pookamoo · 20/10/2014 21:09

We had home made jam. A bit "B&B" but yum, and still remembered fondly!

I like pretty much any favour a couple might like to give, except donations to an obscure charity that I'm unlikely to support.

All favours look nice, I like seeing what people have chosen to do, and even if they're only enjoyed for a small part of the wedding day, then I've still enjoyed them.

HowsTheSerenity · 20/10/2014 22:12

Home made nectarine and peach jam at my wedding.
I had to stop people taking extras

OpiesOldLady · 20/10/2014 22:19

I had temporary tattoos made up as wedding favours. The theme to our wedding was vintage rock tattoo and we had an old style heart surrounded by roses with scrolls across it with out names and date of the wedding.

They were a hit with everyone.

pickleme · 20/10/2014 22:26

At a November wedding- poppy keyrings. The kind that you can use as a pound coin. SO useful and a lovely thought.

MrsPiggie · 20/10/2014 22:50

Fridge magnets with the date and names was a good one, I can never have enough fridge magnets. Sweets, miniature bottles of whiskey also fine. Keyrings, I think I've got a few. Venetian masks - not great, at best it will end up in a drawer to be thrown away at the next house move.
