Okay, you caught me, not really an AIBU but I enjoy the varied responses on this board Grin

Best friend's getting married, no idea what her favours will be but the boyfriend and I were talking about what we'd like (as you do when you're bored Hmm Grin )

Anyway, I really like the idea of simple venetian style masks for each guest as a keepsake. Especially if it fit into the overall look of the day.

What are your favourite (or most hated!!) favours received at a wedding?

my friend had bubbles for everyone to blow outside as it was a non-confetti area. Made for some great photos.

Miriama · 20/10/2014 23:02

We had glow sticks, love in the mist seeds, and alka seltzer for the morning after!

polyhymnia · 20/10/2014 23:08

Not taken with whole favours thing anyway - maybe I'm too old and think money on these and much of the other frippery could be far better spent/saved . And tbh Venetian masks sound particularly naff.

polyhymnia · 20/10/2014 23:09

Tho a tub of bubble stuff is definitely one of the best ideas I've heard.

Oh.
I loved my favours.
We had a Halloween wedding too. Pumpkins on tables etc. Favours were 50p horror books wrapped in brown paper with a luggage label stuck on as the place name. Dracula, Frankenstein, Woman in Black etc....

SingSongSlummy · 20/10/2014 23:38

We had toffee apples - very popular after a few drinks!

PurpleWithRed · 20/10/2014 23:42

I gave lotterytickets - three guests won £250 between them plus others won a fiver or so. All very happy.

I went on amazon and brought some small fabric bags and brought a bulk load of heart mints and the me mine sweets and filled the bags.

In kids table they also had these plus different star wars jigsaws!

We had a star wars themed wedding - Most of the adults did the jigsaws lol

I think anything edible is the way to go :)

See, I'm a hoarder and I keep all the favours from the weddings I've attended. Along with the invite, thank you (if recieved!) and my place card and menu if I can get one. Its always interesting when you look back at the ones later when the bride and groom are no longer together lol!!! I did two lots of favours, for my main guests who were older generation aunts etc I had a ceramic trinket box with a hinged lid and sugarded almonds inside. I know a few people who have them on their fireplace, display cabinet which is lovely. For my night time guests who were younger generation friends, cousins etc, we had silver filigree heart shaped boxed with almonds in them. It was fun wrapping them in the tulle and putting my little stickers on the in the week before the wedding with my mum and bridesmaid :) happy memories :)

jaamy · 21/10/2014 14:38

Completely forgot the favours...in the whole 18 months of planning, never crossed my mind! Blush

lazyleo · 21/10/2014 14:38

I've missed the word 'especially' before the bit about those who are no longer together!! I'm not a nasty person who only holds them to look back on those that don't last. I don't seem to have an edit button - new to the MN boards so still finding my way. Note to self - Must read posts carefully before posting!!

AnnieLobeseder · 21/10/2014 14:45

We had bottles of bubble mix and chocs with the date etc. The bubbles were all used at the reception - kids and grownups all had great fun blowing bubbles on the dance floor and all our photos have bubbles wafting across them, which looks great. And the chocs, of course, were eaten.

Masks - nah, not something I'd keep.

I second (third? fourth? fifth?) the idea that it should be something consumable.

Crinkle77 · 21/10/2014 14:50

I know someone who put scratch cards on the tables and it caused ructions. Someone had sat in the wrong seat and took the scratch card and won quite a substantial amount of money. The person who should have been sat there went mad as he claimed that it he should have been sat there. Think it was just tough in the end and the person who sat there first got it.

supadupapupascupa · 21/10/2014 15:03

I had a basket with paper fans in for the ladies to help themselves as favours. Hottest day of the year July 4th. Went down a treat

Topaz25 · 21/10/2014 15:11

I love the mask idea! I think they'd be fun for photos. Probably wouldn't treasure them forever but who really does with wedding favours? We had a bit of a halloween twist with ours so gave away brain shaped scented soaps!

Puckababy · 21/10/2014 15:14

I have just been to a wedding which had the most amazing favours!!!!!!! Everyone had a favour that meant something to them! Ie my other half likes cricket so he got a mini cricket ball! I am partial to a gin and tonic so I got a can of gin and tonic - my friend paints so she got a paint brush another is a diving instructor so he got diving energy gel - any way you get the picture! It just showed us that the groom and bride knew us well and that is why we were at the wedding!!!!!

CheerfulYank · 21/10/2014 15:41

We got married in autumn and had miniature maple leaf shaped bottles full of maple syrup. We're American and it's pretty much a given that everyone would make pancakes eventually :) People liked them.

squoosh · 21/10/2014 15:43

I love maple syrup. That would be as acceptable as booze to me.

Xmasbaby11 · 21/10/2014 15:49

We had mini eggs. They were very popular and none got left behind!

diddl · 21/10/2014 15:51

Have edible masks?Grin

PoirotsMoustache · 21/10/2014 15:51

We had little bags of jelly babies. Bags were red or black organza, and were filled with the opposite colour of jelly babies. They all seemed to go down really well - people ate the sweets and took the bags to use for whatever.

They also ate my bouquet Sad

Tyranasaurus · 21/10/2014 15:55

I went to one wedding where the bride had loving painted everyone's names onto pebbles. I ended up scratching the names off several pebbles for people so that they could be left behind without upset.

Cupoftchaiagain · 21/10/2014 15:56

Am I alone in thinking the masks would be fun? They would be!
