DD's latest tic is making me murderous.[title edited by MNHQ]

It's a revolting little throat noise. Over and over and over again.

I thought the random clicking from a few weeks ago was bad enough, or the rhythmical sniffs or last week's tap tap tap but OH MY FUCKING GOD all I can hear now, even over the hubbub of Sunday dinner, is mm mm, mm mm from the back of her throat.

I've had to leave the table and I'm on the verge of tears. If anyone has ANY idea how I can get through this, please share.

No idea why she tics, by the way, she always has. It is actually torture to not react or scream at her to stfu Sad.

I'm posting to take my mind off it tbh.

Dad or dd?

ChippingInLatteLover · 19/10/2014 19:20

Do you mean DD not Dad?

Ear plugs maybe - there were a few threads on this a while ago. A bit of time on Advance search might help you find some solutions - other than digging up the patio!

gamerchick · 19/10/2014 19:20

Vent away that would drive me mad. More son does ritual silent things and I have to not look at him.. and they're silent!

Ear defenders?

gamerchick · 19/10/2014 19:21

*my

FuckYouSheRa · 19/10/2014 19:21

Oh fucking stupid phone. Yes. Dd.

Is it perhaps a sign of OCD? I suppose she can't help it but I too get very tense and ragey over noises that people make so you've both got my sympathies.

TheFirstOfHerName · 19/10/2014 19:22

My children have all had transient tics (at their worst between the ages of 7 and 11) and the most common one DD gets is a throat clearing tic. Thankfully she isn't suffering from it at the moment.

gamerchick · 19/10/2014 19:22

Everybody's allowed to vent the things they wouldn't dream of saying out loud.

Methe · 19/10/2014 19:22

Oh please. Things are aloud to piss you off you know. Don't be so Fucking precious.

Methe · 19/10/2014 19:22

Allowed even..

backbystealth · 19/10/2014 19:22

Have you any idea how upsetting and embarrassing it is for kids with facial and vocal tics?

backbystealth · 19/10/2014 19:23

Precious?? Oh my god you have no idea.

OraProNobis · 19/10/2014 19:24

Who are you stealth to be telling other people what to post? You could hide the thread you know.

FuckYouSheRa · 19/10/2014 19:24

Well thanks for that Backbystealth. Fucking hell.

I'm not talking about some randomer on the bus ffs.

I had tics when I was little. The worst one was wide eyes and mouth stretching over and over. If I start something now I can feel the urge to do it over and over and struggle to stop myself

No idea why.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/10/2014 19:24

Have you heard of misophonia?

Sounds like you have it

Methe · 19/10/2014 19:24

It is ok to find things annoying.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/10/2014 19:25

The anger is a purely physical reaction which you can't help.

FuckYouSheRa · 19/10/2014 19:26

Oh I definitely have misophonia.

It's horrendous. A daughter with varying degrees of transient tics and a mother with 'intolerantitis'.

Sad

[screams into cushion]

Dd also had the face stretching one. I could cope with that. Bring back that one.

DoughnutSelfie · 19/10/2014 19:27

Yes I understand your annoyance backby, of course

OP is venting, tbh she sounds as though she might have misophonia in my limited opinion. Tricky.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/10/2014 19:27

I have it too. Its nothing to do with intolerance. It is a realy unfortunate combination that she has this tic :( maybe it will pass soon.

I feel the same when dD has a cough. Really stressed the whole time and totally fine if I go outside.

Idefix · 19/10/2014 19:28

Assuming dd not dad? Tics are often caused or exacerbated by stress or obsessive convulsive behaviour, or really just a passing phases.
Live with tics can be hard hope the following link works

In fact I recommend that. A bit of time out.
