Bliss. I've told my family to play it at the end of my funeral. Smile

Oh, it's great, isn't it? I love it. So happy.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 18/10/2014 18:28

All set off by seeing the Hyde Park concert from last month on BBC4 last night. Utterly, utterly wonderful from start to finish. I am now listening to ELO's greatest hits compilation Out of the Blue. Thank you, Jeff Lynne, for all the pleasure your work has given me over the last 40+ years! Grin

It's beautiful. I love it Smile

I think i remember Jeff Lynn saying he thought the song Learning to fly (tom petty and Jeff lynn) was the most perfect song he'd written :)

Hmm, interesting question. Some might say Bohemian Rhapsody but neither effectively fit the classic pop song formula! Both awesome songs though.

ilovelamp82 · 18/10/2014 18:44

On a sunny day, it's always the first song I put on to get me in a good mood for the day. Love it!

Hassled · 18/10/2014 18:45

Out of the Blue wasn't a greatest hits compilation.

I agree it's an amazing song - I can't hear it without remembering then 2 year old DS3 trying to sing the operatic end bits in the back of the car. It took DH and I a while to work out that's what he was doing - I don't think DH has ever laughed quite so hard while driving.

notyummy · 18/10/2014 18:46

DH says it's his favourite running song and has got him up many a tough hill!

Hassled · 18/10/2014 18:48

Sorry - you've already said that (re the not a compilation thing)

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 18/10/2014 18:49

Yes, I just realised that, Hassled. Amazing! I assumed it was because I know almost all of the songs really, really well which usually means it is a greatest hits compilation.

I've just been listening to it in the car. It reminds me of cycling to The Lakes with a cassette player taped to my handlebars aged around 13.

I absolutely love it SmileSmileSmile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/10/2014 18:53

I remember buying Out of the Blue (on vinyl Shock) with my 13th birthday money. I knew I had met the right man when I found it many years later in DH's CD collection Smile.

It's one of my favourite running songs too notyummy.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/10/2014 18:53

We must be about the same age Shockers Smile

Shockers · 18/10/2014 18:54

Blue vinyl? Mine was, were they all?

Dawndonnaagain · 18/10/2014 18:54

I think it is the pop song I hate the most!

Jakeyblueblue · 18/10/2014 18:55

Had it played at my wedding Grin

Shockers · 18/10/2014 18:55

Are you approaching a milestone birthday Oh? Grin

FunkyBoldRibena · 18/10/2014 18:57

We used to have massive rows [me and my cousins] about what he says at the end.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/10/2014 18:58

I don't recall it being blue Shockers, and I have a big birthday in a couple of years Grin Grin

nachohousekeeper · 18/10/2014 19:03

I love this song. It reminds me of my DS (9). Not sure why.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 18/10/2014 19:07

Dawndonna, is there anything you'd like to share with us?

Love, love, love it! ELO were ace, if exceedingly uncool (rather like me BlushGrin)

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 18/10/2014 19:10

I've never been cool in my life, wtffgs! I remember ELO coming on TOTP in the 70s and enjoying their stuff, but not raving about it. Now, however, I find it is actually stuck very deep down in my subconscious and when I hear it again I love, love, love it. Very like ABBA and Queen, in fact - hugely successful commercially in the 70s, never cool, now finally rated for their technical proficiency as well as the catchy tunes.
