Posted in the litter tray section but shamelessly reposting here for traffic...my mum isreally upset so got to do what I can...

Hello MNers
I have namechanged due to not wanting to out myself but am hoping there's a tiny chance someone could help. My mum's beloved cat, Hector, a cream coloured Tonkinese (cross between a Siamese cat and a Burmese cat) has been missing for over a week. She lives in East Sussex, near Hailsham. He's a really friendly and home loving cat so this is unusual. He's microchipped. If anyone has any clue or has seen a cat answering to his description in the area, please please post on this thread!! Thanks.

Can't help, but sending you Thanks

Madratlady · 17/10/2014 23:31

Have posters been put up? Flyers through doors? We got our girlcat back thanks to someone seeing a poster and realising the cat that had set up camp under their hedge was the one on the poster.

hiddenhome · 17/10/2014 23:38

Try putting the cat's details up on the Animal Search UK website.

I hope you manage to find the cat soon. I know how much of a worry it is.

HomefromHome1 · 17/10/2014 23:40

DO you have a local Gumtree site-they have a lost and found pet section.
Fingers crossed for you x

our car has been missing for 3 weeks - so upsetting. Make sure you phone the microchip people and put a lost flag in it so if anyone scans a cat at a vets etc they'll call.

forago · 18/10/2014 02:35

I meant cat stupd phone ...

Findhector · 18/10/2014 03:40

Thanks! Good ideas! She hasn't put up posters because she lives in a tiny village- if he was there, he'd be home by now iykwim.

Local fb site. The buying section ask admin if you can post picture. Contact all the local vets, rescue centres. Agree re posters. Ask your neighbours to check sheds, garages etc as cats love exploring. Talk to everyone in the village letting them know shes missing. Good luck x

londonrach · 18/10/2014 06:59

Can you get her picture in local paper?

helenenemo · 18/10/2014 07:01

Share with your local cats protection?

We found someone's cat after seeing it posted on there... After we realised it wasn't our cat (don't ask!)

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 18/10/2014 07:40

Definitely second posters - we're also in a tiny village, but a poster from the RSPCA reunited a cat that came into ours (called RSPCA as it was very old and looked half dead) with it's owner.

Lonecatwithkitten · 18/10/2014 07:44

Contact all the local vets, ask all her neighbours to open all of their sheds and garages.

amberley1960 · 18/10/2014 08:09

Tell your mum to walk around the area and look up we found our cat stuck up a tree he had been missing for almost a week! Hope you find the cat it's so upsetting x

Latara · 18/10/2014 08:21

Check that none of the villagers have decided to 'adopt' him - this happened to a friend's cat when she went missing - a woman just up the road took her in without bothering to see if she belonged to anyone. Luckily the cat was reunited with my friend after a neighbour had words with the woman.

Notes through doors with a photo can be effective.
Also check with local vets.
Hope he gets found.

NorksWar · 18/10/2014 08:21

I have heard that emptying your hoover bag into the garden can help a missing cat smell it's way home from miles away. Worth a try.

madasa · 18/10/2014 09:48

When my indoor cat went missing I put leaflets through about 100 doors. I stated that he is microchipped (he is) and that he needed medication (he doesn't) . My thinking was that if someone had taken him as he is a particularly beautiful ragdoll, they might think twice if they thought he was a sick cat.

Never know if it was coincidence or not but he turned up a few hours after those leaflets were posted.

Hope you find him.

Justyouwaitandsee · 18/10/2014 09:51

I was also advised to hang an item
Of the owners (unwashed) bedding on the line as the scent carries on the breeze...

madasa · 18/10/2014 10:01

They apparently can be very quiet when lost/disorientated. DP was alerted in the middle of the night by our other cat meowing, so he went in the garden and lost bloody nusiance cat was behind the shed. He was meowing so quietly, almost as if he wanted my DP to hear but no predators.

Findhector · 20/10/2014 18:38

An update - he's home! Turned up this morning safe and sound :). Thanks for all your sympathy and advice Grin
