To call our baby Huckleberry?

We are really struggling to think of boys' names for our second baby (due in 3 weeks.) We have no idea if it will be a girl or boy. The girl's name is all sorted but we already have one boy and have kind of peaked with naming him. My husband came up with Huckleberry and says he is not joking. I really like it but don't know if I'm brave enough. We are not American and feel it is a very American sounding name so maybe would be out of place. Also would it work for an adult? Would an adult named Huck sound like a complete tosser? I should point out that we live in a very alternative area with lots of unusual names around.

I think so…
I am not a massive BG fan, btw - it came up in conversation recently: our 4 boys have v short, v conventional names (with more choices for middle names) and I was saying that we could have called them Wolf, Raven, Bear and Falcon Grin when BG came up. I googled him and was truly disappointed that Bear was not his 'real' name
But yes, the Edward - Ted - Teddy - Bear evolution makes sense.

My husband also keeps suggesting Marmaduke. Maybe he's secretly hoping for another cat.

Be really alternative op.

Call him John.

BOFster · 17/10/2014 21:56

Yes! Let him get a new pet Grin

Bettercallsaul1 · 17/10/2014 21:57

Oh god, stick to Huckleberry!

Mintyy · 17/10/2014 21:57

LOVE Elvis.

Elvis Costello is the coolest living person ever. How can you not love Elvis?

RattysPicnic · 17/10/2014 21:58

OP, Marmaduke is fab! Farmerduke even sounds cool too in an aristo-agricultural way.

And still individual enough to be friends with quietlysuggests DC.

LaurieFairyCake · 17/10/2014 21:58

I think you can get away with Huck

But even if you were upper class and your cat was called Jocasta you can't really call him Huckleberry

MmeMorrible · 17/10/2014 21:58

Huckleberry? As in hound?

No, just no. It's beyond awful.

gointothewoods · 17/10/2014 21:58

No. Just no.
Why is the name Deirdre a problem *OutragedfromLeeds"? Haven't seen thread.

mollypup · 17/10/2014 21:59

Don't do it.

Kids can be horrible about things like this! What about it comes to him applying for jobs in his dream career?

Do no do it.

TheCowThatLaughs · 17/10/2014 21:59

There's a cat called huckle In the Richard scarry books

mollypup · 17/10/2014 21:59

*not

professornangnang · 17/10/2014 22:00

This is a joke, right? What about hunter? It's American but isn't quite as ridiculous.

vestandknickers · 17/10/2014 22:01

Is your DH ok?

Has he been under some stress recently?

Maybe its time for you to suggest some names.....

PacificDogwood · 17/10/2014 22:01

Marmaduke! Shock

Another good dog/cat name Hmm

WerkSupp · 17/10/2014 22:01

Dear god, NO. That's just fucking naff. It's a fictional name for a reason.

Bowlersarm · 17/10/2014 22:03

Huck, I like it. Very cool.

Bettercallsaul1 · 17/10/2014 22:04

What is your husband's name, OP? Is it Ian? Is this some kind of wish fulfilment in the name stakes?

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 17/10/2014 22:04

ohh like sullivan

mrsHawk1ns · 17/10/2014 22:05

I love it but wouldn't be brave enough to actually use it, DS1's middle name is Moriarty which we both desperately wanted as a 1st name but were just too chicken!

RabbitSaysWoof · 17/10/2014 22:05

I like it.

squoosh · 17/10/2014 22:06

OP your husband is clearly crushing big time on Bear Grylls as his sons are called Jesse, Huckleberry and Marmaduke.

professornangnang · 17/10/2014 22:06

Deirdre is a beautiful Irish name but it's mispronounced by a lot of English people e.g. they pronounce it incorrectly on corrie
gointothewoods; it's Deirdre (pronounced Deerdruh) perhaps yer one from Leeds thinks it's Deirdreeeee

Bettercallsaul1 · 17/10/2014 22:07

I think your son will thank you for that, mrsH!
