HUGE BEARD DRAMA!

Here's the backstory.....

The WBMA (World Beard and Moustache Association.) has been running a biannual 'World Beard and Moustache Championships' for about 10 years.

This is a charitable events and all profits have been sent to various good causes over the years.

Then in 2014, a hirsute chap called Phil Olsen, noticed a moneymaking opportunity and trademarked the WBMA name in the USA and set up an event on a non-corresponding year, with all profits going to him, and marketed it without telling anybody that he wasn't the Actual WBMA... just a new one looking to make a fast buck.

The hairy community- I know there's a few WAG's on here... are aware of this and have largely been boycotting this new, shitebag's event. And most sponsors who have been able to have vocally withdrawn their support...

Now if you think Phil Olsen couldn't get any shittier...wait for it... he contacts Facebook and tells them that the original WBMA is infringing his trademark and they delete all their pages.

So, aibu to think that Phil Olsen is a cunt for basically stealing from charities in search of a fast buck?

I don't know but I met a woman on a train once (London to kent) who was going to see her boyfriend who took part in these competitions.
She might've turned into a mnetter. I was a teenager then and we really got on. Always wondered about her

No you are not! And the WBMA need to challenge his right to the trademark! Surely if they can prove they used the title first they can appeal?

JazzAnNonMouse, I'm rarely down that end so probably wasn't me... but I probably will be able to narrow it down if they're avid competitors

I hope that they can appeal. I don't know what the process would be given that it's the American trademark. Any helpful bods on here have any idea?

My ghast is totally flabbered that anyone would screw over a charity like this.
I am absolutely hopping mad about it.

Unfortunately I can't remember her name.
All I can remember is that we got the same train went into marlybone then the same tube then got on the same train again at charring cross.
She was brunette and that's about all my self obsessed teenage self recorded
