cleaner taken thread out of carpet

one of our carpets is a little loose under the door bar/threshold thing. It is has been like that for a little while and needs pushed back under the threshold, which our builder is going to do (we have had a renovation done and it is on the snagging list).

I came home today and a thread about 50 cm long is gone from the edge of the carpet into the hallway. The carpet is thick thread, so it is really really noticeable. The carpet is ruined effectively and will need replaced.

The cleaner must have done it whilst hoovering over the threshold. Which I never do given it is a little loose (you can't fail to notice it is coming out from under the threshold). But she has failed to mention it to me!

I can see these things happen, I am not quite sure who is at fault here, but AIBU to think she should have at least mentioned it to me?

Hahaha are you serious?

Owllady · 15/10/2014 17:51

Did you mention it yo her? Previous to her hovering it up

Owllady · 15/10/2014 17:52

Hovering
Too much Dr who

WipsGlitter · 15/10/2014 17:53

Has the carpet unravelled? Ie it's not a tufted carpet.

ByGrabtharsHammer · 15/10/2014 17:54

Your builder is going to tuck the carpet under the threshold bar? Your builder?

Toooldtobearsed · 15/10/2014 17:55

Am I being unreasonable?

Yes.

ithoughtofitfirst · 15/10/2014 17:56

Argh AWKWARD i couldn't cope with this. Totes awksballs.

What do you say? I think you broke my carpet? No i didn't. Oh... ok then.

skylark2 · 15/10/2014 17:57

Just get a slightly deeper door bar.

Your builder must think you are a gift from the gods.

PiperIsOrange · 15/10/2014 17:58

Did you mention it to the cleaner before she started work.

itiswhatitiswhatitis · 15/10/2014 17:58

Erm wouldn't it have been wiser to have just fixed it yourself?

londonrach · 15/10/2014 17:58

Why didnt you mention it to her but yabu sorry.

Igotafreegoattoo · 15/10/2014 18:00

No I think she means it's frayed 50cm into the room from under the door bar where it was loose thread....

So the Hoover has sucked it up, cleaner has gone shit and unravelled from Hoover.

What did you want her to do..tell you so you could tell her off?

whois · 15/10/2014 18:01

50 cm is quite a lot...

Get a nice welcome mat or something or a huge door bar thingy. My new carpet didn't quite meet the door (grrrr) but dad got a thicker door bar thing and took 2 secs to screw in.

uptheauntie · 15/10/2014 18:02

My builder will not down tools at this current building site and come and fix the carpet himself, but arrange for one of this team of various tradesman to sort it. One of his carpet fitters fitted the carpet and then it was pulled up to sort out a problem with a floor board but the joiner who did that couldn't get it laid under the threshold bar again so the builder (or project manager of the build if that appeases you) said he would arrange to get it relaid properly. We don't pay for this, it is all part of the snagging process as anyone who has done extensive building work will know.

The thread has left a bald line in the hall which protrudes 50cm for the threshold, into the hall.

A larger threshold ain't going to fix that!

If something broke at my work, whilst I was using it, I would not ignore it and hope for the best!

But did you tell the cleaner of the issue.

DiaDuit · 15/10/2014 18:05

Get a felt tip the same colour as the carpet and colour in the line. Sorted.

DiaDuit · 15/10/2014 18:07

You really should have pointed it out to the cleaner before she started so she knew to avoid that part.

uptheauntie · 15/10/2014 18:07

Colouring it in won't sort the issue. It is a bald line in a very thick carpet.

OP posts:
DiaDuit · 15/10/2014 18:10

Colouring in might disguise it though so your eye isnt drawn to it anymore.

As it is so thick i'm guessing it is very expensive. You cant honestly expect the cleaner to pay for that? Do you have house insurance?

TheCraicDealer · 15/10/2014 18:12

If it's that loose it's noticeable surely there's a good chance it would've been removed by normal wear, especially if the builder is dragging his heels fixing the issue. Should've put a line of painting tape (the papery stuff) over the raw edge to stop it fraying and told the cleaner to avoid that part of the carpet.

VivaLeBeaver · 15/10/2014 18:12

Its been like it for a little while, you've done nothing about it. Then suprise, suprise this happens. Not the cleaners fault. You should have sorted it sooner. You could have done it yourself in two mins with a screwdriver. Its hardly technical.

lazydog · 15/10/2014 18:13

You keep avoiding the repeated question - Did you warn the cleaner not to Hoover over that area?

desertmum · 15/10/2014 18:13

Is there no carpet for 50cm from the threshold of the room into the room ? That's one hell of a strong hoover for that to happen. Or, is there a patch missing 50cm into the room? Either way sounds like it's the carpet that's at fault - I hoover ALL the fecking time (dogs) and have never hoovered up half the carpet.

LEMmingaround · 15/10/2014 18:13

You should have fixed it yourself. If it needed TO BE fixed
