cleaner taken thread out of carpet

one of our carpets is a little loose under the door bar/threshold thing. It is has been like that for a little while and needs pushed back under the threshold, which our builder is going to do (we have had a renovation done and it is on the snagging list).

I came home today and a thread about 50 cm long is gone from the edge of the carpet into the hallway. The carpet is thick thread, so it is really really noticeable. The carpet is ruined effectively and will need replaced.

The cleaner must have done it whilst hoovering over the threshold. Which I never do given it is a little loose (you can't fail to notice it is coming out from under the threshold). But she has failed to mention it to me!

I can see these things happen, I am not quite sure who is at fault here, but AIBU to think she should have at least mentioned it to me?

I can't imagine someone hoovering up half a metre of carpet
How bizarre. In all respects.
It's like going out the door, getting your skirt caught on a door and meeting someone in town just wearing your knickers and a t-shirt?

LuisSuarezTeeth · 15/10/2014 20:45

Shock Owllady you saw me? Oh no...

optimistikcolouristik · 15/10/2014 20:49

I think she should have told you about it. Years ago when I was a student I earned some cash for a man by ironing his shirts and tidying up the place. I saw some spots on the floor and used bleach to get rid off them. Unfortunately the spots became even brighter and I had to wash everything off as fast as I could. Later the man looked at the floor and wondered about the spots but I said they had been always there. I was scared, really scared. But in your case I think she should have told you as it would have been easier to get away with it. It is not her fault this had happened but from your post it looks as you are blaming her not only for not telling you but also for not noticing.

This thread is getting more and more surreal...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/10/2014 20:51

desertmum · 15/10/2014 20:53

owlady I also can't see how you can hoover up that much carpet - my Dyson is awesome but even that doesn't hoover up the actual carpet . . . 50cm is nearly 2 ft of carpet how could the cleaner have hoovered it up and then not mention it ? Did she hope you wouldn't notice ?

We need pictures

DiaDuit · 15/10/2014 20:53

I can't imagine someone hoovering up half a metre of carpet

Its only a 50cm thread of carpet not a 50x50cm patch Grin

Owllady · 15/10/2014 20:59

She said it was 50cm into the room and a room bar wouldn't help
My lower class bissel would h ave begged for coal, nooo more carpet pls. With half a metre :o

Ok, don't get let her get away with that half a metre, it sounds like a Disney movie. Next time she'll have hoovered up your whole house

Owllady · 15/10/2014 21:01

She'll have installed one of those scarey mouse in apron things too, to cover your Hoover. It will sit in the corner to cause you emotional pain

optimistikcolouristik · 15/10/2014 21:03

Is it possible to retrieve the thread? You could sew it back. You are just panicking. Do you want to keep this cleaner? Why do you tell her that you have noticed a pulled thread from the carpet and apologise for not warning you beforehand about the problem. Tell her you are a dumb head and now you are trying to repair it. This way at least you will clear up the awkwardness. You will learn a lesson and hopefully she will too.

optimistikcolouristik · 15/10/2014 21:05

I meant to say why do not you tell her

Bettercallsaul1 · 15/10/2014 21:06

This was truly the Hoover from Hell.

DiaDuit · 15/10/2014 21:33

The way i'm interpretting it is that the bar and the missing thread form a T shape now so the vertical is the missing thread and it is 50cm long so a wider bar would be useless as wouldnt cover it IYSWIM?

Bettercallsaul1 · 15/10/2014 21:36

I think the OP has despaired of us. (and who can blame her?)

SuburbanRhonda · 15/10/2014 21:39

Posters often do when they don't get the answer they want on AIBU, better.

Owllady · 15/10/2014 21:48

Or maybe her skirt just been hovered off by the newly installed scarey mouse in the corner

Or has someone already said that? Grin

SuburbanRhonda · 15/10/2014 21:54
