To think ADT need to piss off somewhere else with their pushy sales tactics?

ADT (the alarm people) have had 6 people on my short street ALL DAY knocking on doors to try and sell home alarm systems. They keep going back and forth to knock on doors that weren't answered before.

The first time they knocked here I had just got out of the shower, the second I was on the phone to my boss. They've knocked 5 bloody times!!

I haven't answered as I've seen the way they've cornered my neighbours, including the elderly lady opposite who they kept on the doorstep for ages. I was about 10 seconds away from going over and telling them to bugger off when she shut the door. I could tell she was starting to get stressed.

Another woman got home with her DC and AS SHE PARKED HER CAR they were knocking on her car window to try and sell her an alarm.

They're still mooching around and are clearly not happy that I'm home (lights on) but I haven't answered.

WIBU to shout "piss off" through the letterbox if they knock again? Grin

Just answer. Say a firm "NO thank you" and close the door.

Job done

And before you say 'Oh but they'll just say blah blah blah', they really cant if you don't let them.

can't you complain to the company about the sales tactics? that does sound a bit extreme.

WerkSupp · 14/10/2014 18:21

Tell them to piss off.

Anticyclone · 14/10/2014 18:29

Christ almighty, I had this last year. Surely alarm companies must realise that you NEVER EVER discuss your home security with cold callers, regardless of how many ADT logos they have on their high viz jackets.

They could be anyone! It would be a great way for burglars to work out which houses didn't have alarms.

inadarkplace · 14/10/2014 18:44

tell them its all over mumsnet about people cold calling claiming to work for an alarm company but who really are scammers trying to get there bank details and you have been advised to call the police if they knock

or just ignore

NewEraNewMindset · 14/10/2014 18:45

The house is rented - works most of the time. Then they apologise and scuttle off and peace reigns once more.

GermanHouseCat · 14/10/2014 18:56

Yeah, part of me wondered if it was a ploy to discover a) which houses are empty all day, and b) which houses are without alarm.

I'm not opposed to answering and just saying no, but the first couple of times it was genuinely inconvenient and I've been working from home so couldn't be arsed.

You've got to wonder how little ADT are paying them to make them his desperate. Not that it justifies what they're doing, it's awful
