To go to a Tupperware party with the certainty of not buying anything

I am going to a Tupperware party but I'm not going to buy anything. I see a Tupperware party as similar to a shop, no need to buy unless you really want or need something and I definitely don't want or need anything, so I won't be buying.

My dm thinks iabu and rude and that I need to at least buy something token.

I want to go to see some friends and have a look at what is for sale. Aibu?

All my tupperware is old (passed to me from family members) Didnt know they still made them. Got lots of plastic etc from 99p shop etc but tupperware better quality. Yanbu to go to party and not buy. Misses point abit and goes off to goggle tupperware

I don't think it's rude to go and not buy.

Wow its really been updated in america. The bits you can buy in american look more interesting than the bits in the uk. (Stumbled across american online catalogue before the uk one)

Question...can you turn up at some random party to buy some or i might do it online? How you find prices. Bet they more than i can afford.

You don't have to buy anything but be prepared for them really pushing for you to sign up for hosting, email newsletters and all of that humph. I got harassed for two years by a Pampered Chef rep as when she asked if I would host a party I said no as my family had just had a bereavement (which was true and not trying to fob her off). She heard this as yes I want to host a party now! I ended up marking her emails as spam as even a complaint to head office didn't stop her. I hate these selling parties with a passion now.

The only one of these things that I ever went to with no intention of buying anything was Forever Living. I was upfront about it when my friend invited me but I think I was just making up the numbers anyway. I knew it was all snake-oil but I was still Shock at prices, and intelligent women (2 GP's) spending £hundreds on it.

I host Boden shopping parties

I can understand why you'd want to go - it's hard arranging a night out/in with friends at the best of times so if it's the only chance to get together for a while I'd definitely go. I wouldn't feel obliged to buy anything though and would ignore any sort of pressure

vindscreenviper · 13/10/2014 09:10

I should add that there is no 'selling' at all at my Boden parties, friends are free to drink my wine, eat my snacks and spend hours trying on whatever they like the look of with no obligation, it's just a nice way to spend a few hours catching up with friends.

Honest.

I'm having a pampered chef party in the next few weeks and specifically said on the invite not to feel obliged to buy anything. I want to buy a few things, I know some of my friends want to buy some things - it's the easiest way of doing it. Agree with the pp that having food cooked for you then eating it is quite a nice way to catch up with people! Clearly it depends on how pushy the seller is, but I've been to a few different selling parties and not come across any giving a really hard sell.

Forever living, oh there's been a bit of that round this area. My poor friend caught it and wanted to pass it on to me...! The person she caught it from is one of those awful people who sees everyone she meets as an opportunity or else worthless! Sad. And v. cringeworthy too. No I don't want one hundred pounds worth of your mediocre overpriced products!

Whoa, calm down girl. It's not even Friday yet. Grin
