Hello all. Thanks for great advice re the dog v the partner of 10 months. His textual coolness has continued -we didn't see a great deal of each other so I asked him tonight if he wanted to leave things and that I didn't want to lose my good friend blah blah blah and got a "will not loose" [sic] reply. Do I ask what has changed his view of me or do I just wish him a happy farewell? You'd think at my age I would be able to advise myself as well as I advise my friends, family and the women I work in my professional capacity!

So what would you advise someone else to do?

I'd be very tempted to take the dog for a long walk and forget the idea of friendship entirely.
His behaviour is not that of a friend. Not sure it ever was but only you, if you can be brutally honest with yourself, can know the truth.

Onwards and upwards, don't look back Smile
