To think NO-ONE ever goes into Poundland and just spends a pound?

I'm not sure I'm their target market - middle aged and middle class etc, etc but there are some really useful things in there (reading glasses, tupperware, branded toothpaste and cleaning products, batteries, note-pads). I went in to buy a ball of string the other day and it cost me about £16.

Is it just me?

I agree SirChenjin. The Domestos sprays are the 750ml ones and are always a quid whereas the supermarkets do them but not always for £1.

They also do Vo5, herbal essences and dove stuff full size and cheaper that the supermarkets. I got a heat protection spray (VO5 full size and smells gorgeous) which is over £3 elsewhere.

I do think you need to check sizes because of lot of the branded items are not full size.

SirChenjin · 10/10/2014 15:43

I do check the sizes - I am a complete tightwad - and only buy the ones that are the same as those which cost me much more elsewhere. You have to pick and choose.

poo bags for the dog. They are the best.

That it. I spend my £1 and hoof it out of there.

I trawl the toy section looking for branded toys. Last year I got a load of pollu pocket toys and angry birds toys that were selling for £5 elsewhere. I also have bought OPI and other branded cosmetics. I love a pound shop!!

Candles? Any particular recommendations? I have not tried them, assuming they were rubbish. But not, it seems.

I bought the long striped socks last year for under boots. They are brill I found for staying up under boots. Need some more too!

Do you know what? I think they do an essential service for certain mental health sufferers. I am bipolar and in my manic phases have been known to go a bit OTT with spending. However in the past DS has sent me down to poundland to "shop till I drop". I have to stop when I can't carry any more which is usually the £20 mark.

BTW I know some may see this as offensive but for me it is and has been a brilliant strategy for dealing with this aspect of my interesting illness. And on the plus side I have loads of useful things for hanging socks
