To wonder what the oddest response you've ever received on Mumsnet has been?

Have you ever received a really strange response to a post on here?

I remember about a year ago posting about someone at work who talked constantly about her child, on and on and was I being unreasonable to find it a bit very annoying. I got the usual mix of YABU, YANBU, all perfectly logical responses. Then someone posted 'YABU. Maybe she's nervous', disappeared and never posted again on the thread Confused.

Just wondering what odd or illogical responses you've had to posts on here?

And off it goes... Grin

Blimey, Lucas - that is quite the response. What was the issue - wrong brand, no toast, has you put them in tea the drink instead of milk?

Grin

I was wondering that myself but then remembered my friend's dad having a similarly odd reaction to her suggesting they could have chilli for tea and him asking why she was always so pompous Grin - not quite as feroicous I grant you but evidently beans can be a trigger for some people.

I always like it when threads about things like 'how often do you wash your bras?' or 'what do you think about carpet in a bathroom?' or other mundane shlt like that descend into chaos, mudslinging and angst^

I was flabbergasted at the "do you hang clothes back up in the wardrobe after wearing them" thread - I had never for even a second considered people would have an issue with this. I don't do it, but only out of sheer laziness, preferring to stack worn clothes on a chair but I was Shock at that thread Grin

Oh come on... The only thing you were happily chatting about was you! And if you make enough questionable rewrites, someone's going to question them eventually!

As poster above has said, minor diversion over anyway Smile. And having seen you refer to the Ireland quite a few times, I am glad I know now the story!

wreckingball · 08/10/2014 12:32

I love God.

OhMyArsingGodInABox · 08/10/2014 12:37

My favourite thing that ever happened ever was on a feminism thread that had turned a bit fighty.

Someone said, come on, lets channel Gandhi and be all peace n love.

Which elicited the response ' Gandhi was a dreadful misogynist who hated women, how dare you bring him into this'.

Gandhi. What a bastard.

If you're partial to lentils, just keep it to yourself on MN. They get a slap-down every time they surface.

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 08/10/2014 12:44

Grin. Oh god I remember that bastard Gandhi thread. It was brill.

There've been some marvellous bunfights. The most recent enjoyable recent angst was the supposed trauma and inconvenience caused by having someone put the shopping divider the wrong way on a conveyor belt.

Sadly some of the best bunfights have been deleted, so can be misremembered so easily. Hey ho.

I love the "compromise" suggestions.

Q I am supposed to be seeing friends tonight for a meal and a few drinks. DH has also arranged to see his friends for a meal and drinks. AIBU that he didn't check the calendar?

A Could one of you go out 8-9.30pm and the other 9.30pm to 11.00pm. That way you both get to go out.

Yes, and have 1.5hrs on a curfew, potentially disrupting arrangements with friends, rather than the nice relaxed evening planned.

Off to read the cat up a tree thread now - I bet I see myself being one of the unreasonable ones!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 08/10/2014 12:50

Oh yes Gandhi, what a bastard.was fucking hilarious. I'm the same as van helsing I lurve it when really mundane threads descend into crazy

Pagwatch · 08/10/2014 13:05

Bastard Gandhi made me roar. Grin

I find the Miss Marples reaction to banal posts hilarious.
Poster writes basic scenario and up pops miss Marple with some obscure 'fact' to undermine the whole thing ... Hmm but the no 27 bus is usually late when it's raining!!!

The beans - well, tbh, it was a leeeeetle more than me just giving them to her :) It was many years ago and we were going through a 'you must try a piece of food once and if you don't like it that's fine' thing. She refused to try so I made her sit there until she tried one teeny tiny bean. She had been there for ages and I couldn't decide whether to stick to my guns or give in and apparently I was a fucking c**t for making her sit there Hmm

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 08/10/2014 13:27

I think the funniest odd response was made in response to responses.

No, you shouldn't take the super soaker x 100
Ok, I've taken that on board and I think what I should do is, take the super soaker.

Spindarella · 08/10/2014 13:39

Ha ha Lucas

PrettyPictures92 · 08/10/2014 13:50

TheOriginal that thread was hilarious Grin though a bit like banging your head off a brick wall

PrettyPictures92 · 08/10/2014 13:51

Ohhh! Anyone remember the crazy golf thread??

Op: AIBU?
Everyone: YABU!!
Op: No I'm not! lots of foot stamping I got my baby nephews back!

I was in tears Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 08/10/2014 14:41

Oh blimey, that 'mad as a box of frogs' thread spawned see what I did there so many others it was just stupid.

I remember the name of the poster (but obviously will not name her as that's not fair) as she was and hopefully still is a very kind poster on the mental health board. She was utterly unable to accept that her interpretation of anything was incorrect though. In her mind she was right and that was that.

I wish I'd known that before I got sucked in.
