To wonder what the oddest response you've ever received on Mumsnet has been?

Have you ever received a really strange response to a post on here?

I remember about a year ago posting about someone at work who talked constantly about her child, on and on and was I being unreasonable to find it a bit very annoying. I got the usual mix of YABU, YANBU, all perfectly logical responses. Then someone posted 'YABU. Maybe she's nervous', disappeared and never posted again on the thread Confused.

Just wondering what odd or illogical responses you've had to posts on here?

OP posts:
YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 06/10/2014 16:43

That my kids are naughty and undisciplined because I said they got restless when waiting in a long queue in the bank. I made no other comment or reference to my kids but the poster in question decided that my kids are naughty because they aren't silent little automatons.

"I showed this thread to DH and he said..."

a) who is DH? Boss of the world? All knowing oracle?
b) if DH has some wisdom to impart, by all means let him sign up for an account

The ONLY time it is ok is when it is a query to do with a specific issue - i.e. OP my washing machine makes a thumping noise.
A - DH is a washing machine engineer and he suggested...

I posted years ago about my annoyance at my stepson raiding the fridge a eating the entire contents at the packed lunch I had prepared for DH for the next day, because it was obvious it was prepared for.

The explanation from one poster was that my stepson ate it to teach me a lesson of sorts for preparing a lunch for a grown man, and what was I, a Stepford wife?

Confused
Fenton · 06/10/2014 16:48

Looks like he's eaten some bits of my post too - apols.

cherrybombxo · 06/10/2014 16:51

o0

That made me laugh out loud. Amazing.

CruCru · 06/10/2014 16:51

I like MN a lot but some posters are very strange indeed.

LadyBaelish · 06/10/2014 16:54

I remember a thread about cats where a poster came on, told us that cat owners should knock on doors along the street offering to pick up their cat's poo from gardens, and then left again Confused It wasn't even a thread about cats pooing in people's gardens IIRC, it was just a general 'can we talk about our cats' kind of thread!

KurriKurri · 06/10/2014 16:58

I once ventured into education on a thread about dyslexia.

A poster came on and said dyslexia didn't exist, it was all made up in the minds of middle class parents with lazy children and she knew because she's been teaching for fifty years or something.

I replied (pretty reasonably I thought considering my DS has dyslexia) with facts and links to studies etc. which refuted her opinion.

She then said 'you are a Nazi, and the reason why there are so many feral children out there' Confused

Most odd !

JuniperTisane · 06/10/2014 17:01

I got asked if I was the Fishy One Hmm. I can't even remember what the thread was about but I obviously got the sarky tone about right.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 06/10/2014 17:07

I always have a chuckle on the name threads. If I open a thread and see a list of names from the OP I dont like, I just leave the thread and dont comment or offer suggestions - clearly we have different taste.

But I see plenty of "Shall I choose Cassius, Artie or Quentin or something else?" and they get suggestions of "Jack, Max, Rory"

once I was posting on a thread about boys wearing princess dresses and someone quoted me and said oh I bet you are the type who always gets her daughters clothes in the girls section.

it was as if that was a very strange thing to do when every single person i know shops that way. sometimes the mumsnet general consensus seems to be a total contradiction to reality.

DuelingFanjo · 06/10/2014 17:22

I also got told once that there was no such thing as an Autistic Spectrum.

Mrsjayy · 06/10/2014 17:39

I was worried about a woman I used to work with wont go into it but she behaved strange ly about food, was told I was obviously obsessed about food if I was worried about her

JustAShopGirl · 06/10/2014 17:45

my sis got upset with me once because I shouted at her DD for pulling my hair so hard my scalp bled ... posted on chat that her response had got to me since I was bleeding and got the response "wow, just wow"

Mrsjayy · 06/10/2014 17:56

Been told I had shoody tastes and probably didn't have care about etihical production because I said I wouldn't spend 100s on a handbag that was weird.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 06/10/2014 18:25

I posted in Travel asking whether it'd be too hot to go to Egypt in May. Some people responded with their opinions, which was great. I also got replies along the lines of:
"Do you have to ask for advice from random strangers on every aspect of your life?"
"Are you even aware of the current political situation in Egypt?"
Confused

BalloonSlayer · 06/10/2014 18:32

Wasn't me but remember that recent thread when someone posted asking where to buy cheap helium balloons and the very first reply was a character assassination because of what using helium does to the planet.

(to be fair I never knew and it has since put me off helium balloons, not that I needed much putting off . . . see username)

Mrsjayy · 06/10/2014 18:35

Oh once saw do you not feel irresponsible for others who can't afford a holiday on a holiday thread Hmm

Mrsjayy · 06/10/2014 18:37

I and man y others on thread infantise their man because we buy them socks and pant

Gemzybelle · 06/10/2014 18:47

Never on my own thread, everyone has been lovely thankfully.

But goodness, the baby names section is evil Grin

longest · 06/10/2014 18:48

I posted about my engagement and that we were planning to ttc, and a poster told me that because we'd met online he'd probably start abusing me once I got pregnant.

It was bizarre.

Lovecat · 06/10/2014 18:51

Oh God, I posted yonks ago about being slightly miffed on account of DH having eaten the quiche I'd meant for that night's dinner. Not in AIBU, iirc

TempusFuckit · 06/10/2014 18:53

I posted a vaguely funny anecdote about misunderstanding in the ladies loos at work and was accused of stealing it from the Fancy That column of Take a Break's September 85 issue (or equivalent).

AryaOfHouseSnark · 06/10/2014 18:55

I don't think the nervous comment is that strange because I talk repetitive bollox when I am nervous Grin.
I have seen some really strange responses though, that have really made me Shock, then, even curiouser, someone else will come along and say something like are you me, I came on to say the very bollox you have just typed.

The dh/dp comments really annoy me too, who gives a shit what your dp/DH thinks.

Mintyy · 06/10/2014 18:56

To be fair, gamerchick, saying dishwasher are lazy (I guess you mean having a dishwasher is lazy) is a really odd thing to say and therefore deserving of odd responses.
