Aibu to be angry at DH re. New car

Myself and DH got a brand new, on lease, car at the beginning of the week. I drive it mostly through the week as he has a works vehicle but it's for both our use evenings and weekends. I have stressed how strict we need to be re. Looking after it. With 2 DC (1 and 3) and a dog, living in the countryside, it's easy for these things to get wrecked and with having to return the vehicle after the hire term I understandably want it to be returned in the best possible condition. I have been meticulous this week at making sure dc have no food or drink in the car, etc. You wouldn't know we had been in it. DH used the car for the first time last night and when I've come to it today and there are scuffs all over the boot door internally. Not just dirty marks, actual damage. I'm furious! DHs only come back is "well it's bound to get fair wear and tear"

Yeah wear and tear over time! I can't believe he's not even managed 1 trip out in it without causing damage! This is typical of him. He's incredibly laid back in life and seems to wreck everything.

Sorry for the rant! Aibu to think he could have made a bit more effort to look after it?

My DH is exactly the same, used my car last week and it came back with a scratch on the side, he is also very laid back but sometimes is drives me mad, I have kept it mark free for 2 years, we also have to return it in a few months as it's on a lease. Grrrrr men!!

I'd be cross too, MrsSocks. How did it get damaged? I would probably consider not letting him use it at all in future ('lose' his set of keys). I have a car that I still won't (ten months later) let anyone eat/drink in Grin. The rest of the family now accept this, but did grumble for quite a while at first.

Get him to read the policy bits where is tells you what damage will be charged for on its return. I'm sure that the lease companies idea of fair wear and tear are poles apart from his.

YABU for starting a sentence with "myself". Says it all.

YANBU

I can't stand people who aren't careful with things. I couldn't be with someone like that.

TeaAndALemonTart · 05/10/2014 21:17

Yeah, I won't get a lease car because of this. BIL got absolutely hammered when he returned his.

Bailey101 · 05/10/2014 21:18

YA most definitely NBU - I would be raging if someone did that to my week old car. I hope he's paying for the loss of value at the end of the lease!
