Apple is watching you!

You just go to your iPhone Settings, then Privacy, then Location Services, then System Services where you'll see a very curious option to see your Favorite Locations. It is exactly what it sounds like: a map of the places you've visited most frequently, down to the (thankfully slightly inaccurate) street address.

Thankfully you can turn it off!!! Creepy!

Thank you!

OraProNobis · 04/10/2014 22:34

I'm not sure how much energy I can gather to care about this tbh! If it's not Apple it's someone else - isn't the UK the most CCTV'd place on earth? And doesn't your phone provider know where you are all the time? It's all creepy!

hiddenhome · 04/10/2014 22:36

I never go anywhere interesting anyway Grin

bellarations · 04/10/2014 22:39

Sorry but this isn't new info. The photos taken with an iPhone plot you on a map, gps tracks where the photo was taken.

ArgyMargy · 04/10/2014 22:40

Apple doesn't give a shit where you've been - trust me you're not that interesting!

wowfudge · 04/10/2014 22:41

At least I haven't been anywhere I shouldn't have!

Notsoyummymummy1 · 04/10/2014 22:41

Well it might help those who are up to no good!!! ?? it's about choice and some may not know they have that choice!

OP posts:
SanityClause · 04/10/2014 22:42

I quite like it, because all my photos are filed under where and when taken.

18september · 04/10/2014 22:42

Wow! I've just turned it off, thanks.

hiddenhome · 04/10/2014 22:44

But your online provider tracks you anyway and you can't turn that off without keeping the phone turned off.

Does it really matter? We're all on CCTV every time we go out too.

Eastpoint · 04/10/2014 22:44

If you disabled it ages ago to try & prolong battery life it will still be off.

Notsoyummymummy1 · 04/10/2014 22:44

Argy if they couldn't use the information in some way to their advantage them the feature wouldn't be on there!

Apple doesn't give a shit where you've been
really?
How naive you are
All companies would like to have profiles of their customers, the more information they have about them the better they can tailor their products and advertising to manipulate them.
Also they can sell the information on to other companies at a profit.
The more information corporations and govt has about you the more they can control you if they want to.

OraProNobis · 04/10/2014 23:03

Well I'm not sure they can control you can they? What do you mean by that? Do you mean 'they' can make you get on whatever bus 'they' want or make you buy stuff you don't want? Too weird! They can target advertising at you but I worry for people who can't see through that sort of thing tbh.

duhgldiuhfdsli · 04/10/2014 23:04

"Argy if they couldn't use the information in some way to their advantage them the feature wouldn't be on there!"

If you are that suspicious of a vendor, why do you buy their products?

mameulah · 04/10/2014 23:05

Yuk! I have just turned it off too. Thank you!

gordyslovesheep · 04/10/2014 23:06

oh I think it's nice Grin

I don't see the scary conspiracy shit at all

sillymillyb · 04/10/2014 23:07

I've just turned it off but found it quite interesting stalking myself and seeing where I had been. Oh! And how did they know "home" was my home? It doesn't bother me (maybe naively!) I'm just curious!

mameulah · 04/10/2014 23:07

Can I hijack this helpful thread by asking anyone if there is a way of increasing the storage on your i phone? Some people seem to have a zillion photos or movies on their phone. I don't seem to be able to store that many.

Is the storage you have just part of the handset or can you buy more? Or how do you do it?

Theas18 · 04/10/2014 23:07

Well I hope apple gets lots of useful info from me...

Home, work, my mothers, aldi and knitting on Saturdays. Such a rock and roll life I lead!

OraProNobis · 04/10/2014 23:09

Me neither! If you seriously don't want anyone to know where you are or what you're doing then it might be an idea to go live somewhere considerably less technologically advanced and do not have internet or mobile phone but do get yourself a nice shiny tin hat!

anastasiakrupnik · 04/10/2014 23:10

Turned off. How unnecessary.

LostInWales · 04/10/2014 23:10

Would this impact on the 'Find my iPhone' thingy on my iPad though? I have to say this is my best thing ever at the moment as I left my phone at one of the 5 million places I take my sporty boys after school and using the find thing I managed to get my phone to make a noise and display on the screen that it was lost and my home phone number to call. 2 minutes later and the swimming pool phoned to say they had my phone and I had it back within the hour. Don't care if they are following me, that was so useful.
