To ask what the state of your bedding is like? and where is nice to get new stuff?

I am fed up of my bedding. I have three cheap cotton sets, not matching (but don't care about that) and every sodding month I seem to leak on my period so now it all looks very scruffy.

What is your bedding like? Do you chuck stuff if it gets stained, do you care or not? Also, how many sets do people tend to have?

I'm waiting for a tax repayment at the moment but then I really need some fresh new things, where is good to look? Tk Max maybe?

Yes tk max, I got a 600 tc set for 45 and its amazing xx

Justyouwaitandsee · 04/10/2014 17:32

We found that Matalan have some nice, reasonably priced sets. (We both hate the feel of any embellishment so just wanted basic but nice cotton sets)

Tanacot · 04/10/2014 17:36

Soak and Sleep - formerly DAPW. I buy only from them these days - it's the best for your money.

Owllady · 04/10/2014 17:41

I've had 2 king size orla kiely sets from tk maxx fir under £30 and they are not everyone thing I know, but you can get other nice stuff (designers guild etc)

I have a really expensive habitat one too but it's just too hot

Atm I have an old Woolworths one on, it like marimekko flower print. It's lasted ages. Poor old willies hasn't :(

Dunelm is worth looking at too

Owllady · 04/10/2014 17:42

Willies Blush woolies z

MrsTaraPlumbing · 04/10/2014 17:46

Two sets is enough for me.
I can usually launder and have it all dry and back on the bed in one day.

I soak any blood stains in cold water for about an hour before putting in WM and wash at 40 with bio.
All comes up looking lovely.

storynanny2 · 04/10/2014 17:50

Another vote for to max, I have several sets by Sanderson (also can buy in Bedeck) lasted years so far, still look fresh and never need ironing.

I agree just have 2 nice sets...get lots of plain white fitted sheets for the mattress though. Most bedding sets do not come with the fitted sheet. Debenhams and bhs do nice ones.

Fairylea · 04/10/2014 17:57

I really love sets from next and sainsburys. Always wash well and dry quickly.

steppemum · 04/10/2014 18:06

I have 2 sets, one on the bed and one being wahsed/dried/stored ready to go on.

Buy the highest cotton count you can. BUT too good and it will need ironing!

One of mine is Next, but the sheet is M&S. I have to say the M&S cotton sheet is lovely, the nicest bit of both our sets. Smooth, soft, and stretches on so doesn't need ironing.

fizzymittens · 04/10/2014 18:12

M&S are good as long as you get nice Egyptian cotton. Next do some Egyptian cotton as well but it is not as good quality as it used to be. We always have plain white bedding. I would never keep or use stained bedlinen but use tampons and don't have massively heavy periods so this is not an issue in any case.

noisytoys · 04/10/2014 18:16

Another vote for TK Maxx. Roughly £50 but worth every penny and looks brand new after a lot of washes.

juneybean · 04/10/2014 18:19

I buy the sets in Wilkos, very cheap really. But I treated myself to a lovely one from Yorkshire Linen for my new house :)

trixymalixy · 04/10/2014 18:22

I am just about to replace my beloved Habitat bedding set. It cost £70+ 15 years ago and was a wedding present. It has started to fray round the edges.

It's a very heavy cotton so lovely and cosy in the winter, can't find anything like it anywhere Sad.

TheFairyCaravan · 04/10/2014 18:25

I get a lot of our bedding from Just Linen. Good quality bedding at Dunelm prices ime.

Nomama · 04/10/2014 18:27

I need new bottom sheets. We bought those memory foam toppers and now none of the sheets stay on!

My bedding is an odd mix. He has stuff that is now 15 years old, very expensive House of Fraser, that has gone all soft and lovely. Mine - one was a car boot find, £5, came from Laura Ashely and included 4 metres of matching material!! The other was from the BHS Home shop, lovely, good cotton.

But now I need those bottom sheets in some odd colours - sky blue, lime green, a weird grey and a deep red.

Anyone have any ideas? With your permission, OP Smile

exexpat · 04/10/2014 18:45

TKMaxx for bargain designer sets, and La Redoute for good plains (just treated myself to some genuine linen stuff from there). And Ikea bedlinen is very good quality for the price.

NotYouNaanBread · 04/10/2014 18:48

I'm a bedding freak. It's my thing. So the sheets on my bed right now are an eye-wateringly expensive Libeco linen blend, with Irish linen pillowcases. I also have pure Belgian linen, pure Irish linen, Frette (hotel collection, not main line) and some John Lewis and Pottery Barn.

The Frette Hotel Collection (wedding presents) was a fraction of the price of the main line Frette stuff and is OUTSTANDING quality. Married 8 years and it's still going strong. You'd think it was new (if I bothered ironing it).

I'm not fabulously wealthy, I just opened a shop selling high end bed linen and other things (outs self) a few years ago, and this is all the top of the range stuff that just didn't sell - too expensive, sadly - that I eventually had to admit defeat on and keep for myself. Luckily it was dead stock that I could actually use! The shop is still going, but I don't sell bed linen any more, obv.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/10/2014 18:51

Wrt stains-run under hot tap to loosen and then wash with bio powder.

I order cotton bedding from viceroy bedding.

Hobbes8 · 04/10/2014 18:56

Achica is nice if you like more brightly coloured stuff.

Dunelm do a lot of different coloured flat and fitted sheets nomama.

addictedtosugar · 04/10/2014 19:35

I've moved away from white bottom sheets.
So gone for mainly white duvet covers, but picked one of the other colours in the pattern for the bottom sheet, and the bottom pillowcases (top pillowcases match the duvet).

We have 2 sets - one one the bed, the other being washed/dried/stored ready for use.

The boys have blue bottom sheets. I might revisit that before they are teenagers!

And yes, Dunelm, or weirdly Next for bottom sheets in different colours.

jcscot · 04/10/2014 19:45

The White Company for duvets/pillows etc, Cotton and Cologne for fitted sheets and quilt covers. Flat sheets and pillowcases are pure cotton or linen and I hand-embroider them myself (Ayrshire whitework style or some touches of colour depending on the style of the bedroom). Each bed also has extra quilts that I made myself in a variety of patterns.
