To ask what the state of your bedding is like? and where is nice to get new stuff?

I am fed up of my bedding. I have three cheap cotton sets, not matching (but don't care about that) and every sodding month I seem to leak on my period so now it all looks very scruffy.

What is your bedding like? Do you chuck stuff if it gets stained, do you care or not? Also, how many sets do people tend to have?

I'm waiting for a tax repayment at the moment but then I really need some fresh new things, where is good to look? Tk Max maybe?

I get all white egyptian cotton from Soak and Sleep as mentioned ^up there^. Superb prices and quality.

If you want colours, I would still buy white and then dye it with Dylon - works a treat on pure cotton and linen.

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/10/2014 19:51

Duvets and pillows are silk, again from Soak and Sleep

Eva50 · 04/10/2014 19:53

We only have one duvet cover but two sheets and sets of pillowcases. They are really good quality and came from Debenhams about 6 years ago. (I had a voucher, they were half price in the sale and my mother paid for the sheets). I am on the lookout for another duvet cover at the moment. The children have two sets each.

We have 4 or 5 duvet sets of which the newest is 4 years old and the oldest is a Next one from 10 yrs ago. And probably 6 bottom sheets.

Next, TK Maxx, Debenhams and IKEA are all good for choice, good quality and well priced sets that last and wash well.

I don't keep anything stained or frayed.

DollyParsnip · 04/10/2014 20:24

Any ideas on where to get good Super Kingsized stuff? A lot of the big shops have really scaled back their ranges so we can only seem to find plain dyed stuff to fit.

RickyDinkPanther · 04/10/2014 20:34

Have you looked at Bedeck Home?

StillSquirrelling · 04/10/2014 20:35

I have a mix of expensive stuff and cheap stuff. The duvet covers and pillowcases on our bed at the moment are cheap printed ones from Next and the sheets and bottom pillowcases are slightly higher quality ones (in terms of threadcount etc) from M&S. The Next stuff has been well worn over the last 7 years or so and so is gorgeously soft, albeit rather faded and getting a bit tatty. I'm holding out on replacing it though, until we've redecorated our room.

The girls both have Ikea and Vertbaudet on their beds (european sized beds so needed european bedding). DS has a mixture of Mothercare and Laura Ashley on his toddler bed. The spare room has some white bedding that I picked up from TK Maxx that wasn't all that cheap but I'm not too impressed with the quality really.

Before I met DH and his greasy-head and got my cat, I used to have outrageously expensive bedding from Yves Delorme but DH and the cat didn't treat it very well so I retired it to the airing cupboard to stroke wistfully on occasion until such a time as I can put it on a bed again.

HippyPottyMouth · 04/10/2014 20:45

I've got one with a little hole at the side, and a couple that are missing some poppers, but I chuck anything that's stained or seriously damaged. I mainly buy cheapish fitted sheets because the ointments that DH uses for his psoriasis leave greasy marks that I can't get out after a while. Tomorrow's problem will be removing the hot chocolate stains from him feeding it to the baby from his cup! The clean sheets are in her bedroom in which she's sleeping, so I can't do anything about it until the morning.

John lewis in the sale...

Janethegirl · 04/10/2014 21:22

Dunelm Mill can be good for bargains, or Debenhams in their sales

TinklyLittleLaugh · 04/10/2014 21:37

I have two fairly plain cream cotton sets, with some brushed cotton bottom sheet options for winter.

My girls have gorgeous, vividly coloured John Lewis and Clarrissa Hulse designs.

DS2 has a favourite Lego patterned set from Next.

DS1 has some IKEA stuff; biggest challenge was finding nice 3/4 sized fitted bottom sheets for his University bed.

Actually, I've had to buy a few more extra deep fitted sheets over the last few years as we've all upgraded to thicker memory foam mattresses.

Goldenlab · 04/10/2014 21:50

Northern nights - they sell through QVC. Their stuff is fantastic

alemci · 04/10/2014 22:08

i have 5 duvet covers which is ridiculous but they do wear out. bought a lovely one in Debenhams half price last week. Ashley Thomas at hom, pretty.

LilMissSunshine9 · 04/10/2014 22:28

All my duvet covers and pillow cases have come from Next (they have worn very well after years of washing). My mattress sheet came from Dunelm Mill as I need deep fitted ones and they are excellent.

greeneggsandjam · 04/10/2014 22:44

I quite like Zara home stuff (in the sale!).

kormasutra · 04/10/2014 22:51

I second northern nights:)
I am a bit fussy over bedding, change dc bedding 3 times a week and ours on a Saturday, like New sheets now and then, asda have some lovely ones, I'm not fussy/snobby over where they're from as long as they go with the decor and are nice quality.
Nothing beats getting into a bed with fresh new bedding, treat yourself op, we spend a third of our life in bed so get shopping!
My bedding is currently looking at me waiting to be ironed but cba:)

MairzyDoats · 04/10/2014 22:52

I've got a Debenhams stripey duvet set(beige and white), a very spendy Sanderson one in a sort of grey flowered toile and a blue and white Sainsbury's one., which was about £20. I like the Sainsbury's one and the Sanderson one equally as much! Don't like them when they start to look less crisp though, so I do replace every couple of years. There is nothing nicer than new bedding.

TheGonnagle · 04/10/2014 22:55

We have two sets as well. Both are Kas from Australia, difficult to get hold of but I buy it on ebay and the quality is beautiful. I haven't liked their recent designs (really bright) but if you can find a design you like the quality is brilliant.
And Cologne and Cotton in Leamington Spa for the sheets. Beautiful quality linens.

Fabulous46 · 04/10/2014 22:57

Urgh! Bed linen is a bone of contention in our house. I really like Dunelm Mill or Next. The duvet covers wash well. DH has a friend that works for Woods linens though and we buy quite a bit through him. Their Irish linen range is beautiful and lasts for years.

singaporefling · 04/10/2014 22:57

White Company - usually when they offer 15% discount/in sale - feels beautiful/lasts for years/washes very well. I ALWAYS sleep on a huge bathe towel doubled in half when I have my period - looks a bit 'noticeable' (mauve towel on white bedding) biput obviously does the trick and protects the bedding!

Satinlaces · 04/10/2014 23:00

Love my bedding, minimum ten lots.
The most expensive is not always the most comfortable though, as the higher thread counts can be a bit slippery on a lightweight down duvet.

Northern Nights on QVC do the best deep fitted sheets.

thenightsky · 04/10/2014 23:01

Cotton Ikea here as we have their biggest of big beds so stuck with buying only their bedding. I have two sets of 100% cotton bought in 2006 and still like new. Always wash with bio gel, plus a scoop of white Vanish and a big slosh of conditioner at 60c.

lurkerspeaks · 04/10/2014 23:02

Bedlinen is a weakness of mine.

My sheets are all John Lewis, mostly 100% cotton, some are seconds, one set of funny "easy iron" blend which I bought one sale and don't like - I mostly use it on the spare bed.

I tend not to buy white sheets, but pick out another colour in the duvet cover as per a previous poster to avoid problems with staining.

My duvet covers are an eclectic mix of old Laura Ashley and John Lewis these are now 11 years old (as I bought them when I got my first flat). Newer purchases were sale bargains from Sheridan and Sanderson.

I had some JL 100% cotton special purchase duvet covers too when I first had a flat, which have been really hardwearing - my sister has them now.

Interestingly I helped my Dad clear out his linen cupboard earlier this year - all the stuff we kept (i.e. it was still serviceable) was old M&S/ John Lewis which dated from my childhood and all the more recent supermarket purchases (as my late mother liked a bargain and never ever, sense the tension here, saw that a low price wasn't necessarily good value) were all pilled and worn.

The only one of her purchases that has washed and lasted well was an ikea set.

thenightsky · 04/10/2014 23:03

I never iron. Line dry, finish in tumble drier and fold very neatly whilst still warm.
