Basically Banksy did some graffiti on one of their toilets. They scrubbed it off.

Now they find out it's a Banksy and they say "We would obviously welcome an appropriate Banksy original on any of our seafronts and would be delighted if he returned in the future."

It's either unwanted graffiti, or it's art. It's not suddenly art because some wanker calling himself Banksy painted it.

I feel a bit sorry for the council, but then Banksy's patronising Politics By Numbers gives me the arse.

Many local authorities remove graffiti as soon as possible if a complaint has been made about the message being offensive in terms of politics or race.

I think that's a good policy on the whole, given the nature of most such graffiti, and the person sending crews out with a whitewash brush shouldn't have to be bothered with attending the site first with an art critic.

The only thing I would have done differently is asking Wanksy to come back. I wouldn't, because he won't. He was certainly quick enough to advertise it though, wasn't he?

I'd just be referring news outlets to the council's policy on graffiti and perhaps reminding them that in these times of austerity, many councils have had to cut back on prompt response to nuisance.

The papers have lot of comments from up-themselves wanker types

"Banksy wanted Clacton-on-Sea to confront racism – instead it confronted him

Tendring district council has destroyed a painting that eloquently challenged views on immigration – was it too close to home?"

No, it was reported to the council who then sent out a man on £15,000/year wiped it off. They didn't have some sort of emergency political conference.

I'm not sure if/when I last went to Clacton, but it sounds like it's a nice, clean, safe area, and they should be pleased that their council is so efficient.

well it WAS removed because someone reported it as racist - that's just a fact

retrorobot · 02/10/2014 15:03

The fact that it was painted over by Clacton Council shows the general stupidity that pervades these sort of areas. Anyone with any intelligence gets out and the rest of the feral underclass are left breeding among themselves.

Christ Almighty. I felt bludgeoned enough by Banksy's political insights. I didn't bargain for CiF wankers explaining them as if I was in their remedial class.

Nice retrorobot. Nice.
