to not want my kid to go to a mosque ...again!

We live in North Yorkshire and every year the village Cof E school run a whole-school trip to Bradford.First they went to a mosque, then the following year a Gurdwara and then a Hindu temple, and now this year back to a mosque again. They do that in the morning, then have lunch and a run around in a park, and then in the afternoon a quick visit to 'Bombay Stores' and then back home for school pick up. DD and her friends don't want to go ( they went in Y2) and I resent having to pay £13 for each of my 2 kids at the school.Whaty is the point of going to the same place again, and do the school get 'Brownie Points' for doing this sort of RE trip.

OP posts:
neiljames77 · 01/10/2014 23:39

So is the kid going to the mosque then or not?

Whiskwarrior · 01/10/2014 23:40

Indeed Sooty - yet, I'm ignorant.

Because they're all obviously lying. And Maisey has read accounts, you know. So she must know more than everyone else.

ilovehotsauce · 01/10/2014 23:41

It's eid this weekend so they make get to do extra stuff decorating or henna. Personally I don't see them problem, how often do they visit churches?

ilovehotsauce · 01/10/2014 23:43

Runs off to read the whole thread. ......

Bogeyface · 01/10/2014 23:44

Just read the OP.

YANBU to not want to pay for a trip that they have been on before. The cost of these trips is getting out of hand at our school and when I had 3 at the same school and H had been made redundant it was a real problem. However...

YABU to not want them to visit the same place twice because they can get different things from it on different visits.

Maisyblue · 01/10/2014 23:45

Why does it bother you, your the one who started throwing the 'ignorant' insults out. I too like to believe the best in people and I hate racists myself. I called you ignorant because you state as fact that women like to wear the burkha. Unless you interview in confidence at least a thousand women who wear them then you wouldn't know if they wear them through personal choice. It sounds like you've just asked one person and you are basing your opinion on that. That to me is ignorant.

Whiskwarrior · 01/10/2014 23:49

I haven't stated anything as fact. You haven't spoken to anyone. Your evidence is based on stuff you've read (Daily Mail?). And I only mentioned one person. I actually know quite a few people who wear various types of covering, all through choice. Are they all liars?

Are the women on here, who are anonymous and therefore have nothing to gain from lying, also lying when they've discussed wearing theirs through choice.

And anyone who makes the type of comments you've made throughout this thread is without a doubt racist.

And I called you ignorant because you are ignorant. You've essentially called a whole sub-section of society liars because you don't believe them. Based on nothing more than what you've read somewhere else. Ignorant.

Tiptops · 01/10/2014 23:52

Maisey you really are embarrassing yourself here Biscuit

Firstly, the Quran dictates that there shall be no compulsion in religion. Forcing a woman to wear certain items is prohibited in Islam.

But for the avoidance of doubt, I am a Muslim woman who chooses to cover up. I can assure you no husband of mine has pressured me into this... whispers I don't even have a husband!

Anyway, this is probably a futile message because naturally as a Muslim woman I can't possibly know my own mind, so you don't believe me Grin

Whiskwarrior · 01/10/2014 23:54

Tiptops - I think I love you!

Maisy do reply to Tiptops and tell her what a liar she is. This should be good.

DixieTreats · 01/10/2014 23:55

Hrtft but no way would I be sanctioning my children going to a mosque and/or similar Islamic religious places during school time. Awareness, understanding, consideration and respect - yes. Devoting school time and personal money to it? No. It's not the traditional religion of the UK, therefore I see that kind of exposure to it as completely unnecessary.

Whiskwarrior · 01/10/2014 23:57

Do run along Dixie there's a dear. This is a discussion for the grown-ups, who've bothered to read the full thread (which you've stated you haven't) and aren't ignorant berks who obviously don't understand about the national curriculum.

Would you sanction your children going to another religious place of worship or is just Islam you have an issue with you racist

Maisyblue · 01/10/2014 23:58

Your not only ignorant but rather nasty, insulting and presumptuous. Only an ignorant person would presume to know what I read. The stuff I've read is from various biographies! firsthand accounts of peoples lives. You want to pop down to your local library and read some yourself....might just open your mind a bit.

ilovesooty · 02/10/2014 00:00

No response to Tiptops then, Maisy ?

Whiskwarrior · 02/10/2014 00:01

Any answer to Tiptops there, Maisy?

The irony of telling me to open my mind by reading biographies when I can get first-hand accounts anytime I like. You know, from actual Muslim people.

PS - it's 'you're - maybe you should check out a book on English when you're next at the library.

Whiskwarrior · 02/10/2014 00:03

She can't respond to Titops, Sooty because it could only go one of two ways.

a) acknowledge that she is wrong and that people do cover themselves through choice

b) call Tiptops a liar.

Much easier to keep goading insulting me. It's cool though, because I know I have the moral high ground here due to not being a massive racist!

Tiptops · 02/10/2014 00:03

Whisk Grin

That's an unbelievable interesting message Maisy , what were the titles of these biographies?

Whiskwarrior · 02/10/2014 00:04

Tiptops when you post, Maisy is going 'lalalalala' with her fingers in her ears and pretending she can't see you.

Maisyblue · 02/10/2014 00:05

My response to tiptops is......great! that's you and that's your choice but that is not the case for everyone. Like I said, interview a thousand.

Canyouforgiveher · 02/10/2014 00:05

*LaurieFairieCake: 30 million people live in Saudi

1.6 billion Muslims

Oh look, a tiny percentage*

First of all your first post didn't say a tiny percentage - it said a tiny sect. That is different.

Secondly, Saudi Arabai, while it might be a tiny percentage of worldwide muslims is an entire sovereign country - with enormous worldwide clout which imposes those rules on women in the name of islam - why ignore that?

Thirdly, if I used your logic I would say that the number of paedophile priests as a percentage of worldwide catholics was tiny (actually it would probably be statistically negligible - look no problem!) As someone raised Catholic I certainly don't think that would be a reasonable argument to refuse to acknowledge the role of the beliefs and systems of the catholic church in paedophaelia by priests.

I don't feel any anti-muslim or anti any religion prejudice. What I do feel is an obligation as a thinking adult to call on religions and those who practice them when their beliefs and systems are disrespectful or abusive of others. Do you really think islam is immune to this kind of abuse/disrespect? no other religion is.

Whiskwarrior · 02/10/2014 00:06

But Maisy, I thought they were all liars! And I bet Tiptops doesn't know any other Muslim women who cover themselves and could tell you you're talking out of your arse.

But then...y'know, books outweigh actual people and their experiences, right?

ilovesooty · 02/10/2014 00:08

Have you read a thousand different biographies, Maisy ?

Maisyblue · 02/10/2014 00:11

So now it's me that's the liar! you're doubting I've read the biographys. So by that you must be implying that there are no such biographys. Sorry I can't remember the names but there are quite a lot. Why is that so surprising?Confused

Maisyblue · 02/10/2014 00:12

Err yes, books that are written by people about themselves usually convey their experiences.

Whiskwarrior · 02/10/2014 00:13

Maisy you can't even spell biographies! Can you name five of them?

And why are your biographies more informative than actual people?

ilovesooty · 02/10/2014 00:13

A thousand of them?
