We live in North Yorkshire and every year the village Cof E school run a whole-school trip to Bradford.First they went to a mosque, then the following year a Gurdwara and then a Hindu temple, and now this year back to a mosque again. They do that in the morning, then have lunch and a run around in a park, and then in the afternoon a quick visit to 'Bombay Stores' and then back home for school pick up. DD and her friends don't want to go ( they went in Y2) and I resent having to pay £13 for each of my 2 kids at the school.Whaty is the point of going to the same place again, and do the school get 'Brownie Points' for doing this sort of RE trip.

They all said how soddin' patronising it was to Asians.

Why would they say that when it isn't about Asians? Confused

Mrsstarlord · 01/10/2014 22:47

Maisyblue: That might be because you don't fit the profile of someone who is going to commit a terrorist act! your partner and his brothers do. That's not racist, that's fact.

Its not a fact it's a ridiculous leap of logic. By this reasoning I should be questioned about every illness my child has because I fit the profile of someone with muchausens by proxy - white and female.

Total twaddle

LaurieFairyCake · 01/10/2014 22:48

Omfg

This is turning into Ukips wet dream Hmm

Next year when the election comes round this fucking thread and the freak shows on it are why we 're going to end up with a Ukip government

Because the Tories and their anti immigration and anti disability policies isn't strong enough for these people....

Fucking hell

Maisyblue · 01/10/2014 22:50

I would like to think that in the interests of learning about other religions, Muslim children are also taken on visits to Christian and other denomination churches.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/10/2014 22:55

They are if they're in British schools taking part in the national curriculum

I'm totally happy to believe that OP's problem is with the repeat of the trip not the location/purpose of it.

However, I can't believe that an 8 year old doesn't want to go because she went three years ago. Can 8 year olds even remember the day to day events of being 5?! I don't think my 7 year old knows what she did in school today let alone in reception!

LaurieFairyCake · 01/10/2014 22:59

All of the examples you gave are nothing to do with Islam or the Qu'uran as er obviously driving and burkas weren't invented back then

It only takes someone with half a brain cell to realise that the examples you give belong to fundamentalists - a tiny sect.

And the millions of Muslims living peacably all over the world are doing none of those things.

Out of interest scattered are you a Ukip voter ?

Whiskwarrior · 01/10/2014 22:59

Islam puts women in burkhas now? Weird because I thought it was free-will and they chose to wear them. Have you actually spoken to a woman in a burkha, scatteroflight? Because I have and they'll generally tell you that they choose to wear it, not that they've been stuffed into it by a man.

And please point out all the stonings we've had in the UK. Ignorant, ignorant, ignorant. It's precisely people like you who need to visit a mosque and actually converse with some Muslims - open your mind a tiny bit.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 01/10/2014 23:01

The perfect opportunity for prejudiced to climb out from under their rocks. scatter the fact that you wouldn't allow your child to go to a mosque says everything about your tolerance. Or lack of it should I say.

Maisy the Muslim school in a nearby locality to me visit the church every year.

They don't charge the children anything btw.

Whiskwarrior · 01/10/2014 23:12

Maisy - it's already been pointed out that Muslim children are taken to visit churches - my school did it.

Here's a tip - try reading the thread instead of just throwing in little nuggets of stupidity. Hope that helps.

Maisyblue · 01/10/2014 23:15

I really can't see women wearing the burka through personal choice. Almost always it's because their men folk want them to wear them. Nothing in their religion says they should. Every account I've read of women wearing them describe them as uncomfortable, burdensome, hot and very very difficult to walk in. Their male partners on the other hand dress exactly as they please.....

Shockers · 01/10/2014 23:20

Eh?

My Muslim friend and colleague drives to work at the CofE school we both work in every day. She wears pretty headscarves (sorry, I can't recall the correct term) out of free will. She has told me that her sister chooses not to cover her head.

There is some utter tripe being spouted on this thread.

The cost of trips is usually for travel and extra staffing. I have never known a place of worship (other than York Minster and that was for extra class time, with guide) charge for a visit.

The mosque I visited gave all the children juice and crisps too.

Whiskwarrior · 01/10/2014 23:23

Maisy are you really unable to read the thread? Have you ever asked anyone yourself why they wear their burkha?

Again, I have. She said it was her choice and she was completely happy wearing it. And no, her husband wasn't there so she wasn't saying it just because he was there.

Are you really this ignorant?

Whiskwarrior · 01/10/2014 23:24

Ah, just noticed, you've read 'accounts'. And you 'really can't see' that's a choice.

Wow. You really are that ignorant.

Maybe step away from the Daily Mail now.

Canyouforgiveher · 01/10/2014 23:24

*all of the examples you gave are nothing to do with Islam or the Qu'uran as er obviously driving and burkas weren't invented back then

Actually all of the examples are the law in Saudi Arabia - I wouldn't consider that "a tiny sect". I don't blame islam much myself for the appalling treatment of women in countries like Saudi - I doubt faith in God has much to do with the motivations of men in power - but there is no doubt the religion is used as a justification. Ignoring that seems silly.

With regard to the OP, I'm with those who are amazed your children know or care where they went 3 years ago. then again, I think I went to the Rock of Cashel on every school tour of my life!

Maisyblue · 01/10/2014 23:27

Please point out all the stonings we've had in the UK ......... rather a stupid argument, it wouldn't be allowed in the UK. Also very naive to believe that women choose to wear a burka. They might say it's their choice but I wouldn't believe them.

DioneTheDiabolist · 01/10/2014 23:29

Yes, yes you are BU OP.

But you know that. That's why you NC'd.Hmm

LaurieFairyCake · 01/10/2014 23:29

I would consider Saudi Arabia a very proportion of the peaceable Muslims living the world over

And remember you're only talking about the leadership of the country and the military enforcers - a lot of the Saudi people plus the visitors don't agree with that fundamentalist view of Islam

Whiskwarrior · 01/10/2014 23:30

You wouldn't believe them? Do you know how incredibly insulting that is to Muslim women? You're basically saying that they can't think and choose for themselves.

You do know there are Muslim women on here don't you? Who choose to cover themselves? Because they want to?

Who on earth are you to decide to dismiss people like that? That's one of the most ignorant things I've read on this thread, if not all of MN.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/10/2014 23:30

A very small proportion

LaurieFairyCake · 01/10/2014 23:32

30 million people live in Saudi

1.6 billion Muslims

Oh look, a tiny percentage

Maisyblue · 01/10/2014 23:32

whiskwarrior.....you are the ignorant one and very naive and gullible.

Whiskwarrior · 01/10/2014 23:36

I'm ignorant? Please expand.

And I'd rather be gullible and believe the best of people than a racist.

ilovesooty · 01/10/2014 23:37

You wouldn't believe them? Do you know how incredibly insulting that is to Muslim women? You're basically saying that they can't think and choose for themselves

Not to mention calling them liars.
