AIBU to apply to two jobs in the same organisation?

I'm currently looking for a new job. Job A came up last week and I've just submitted the application. It's an area that crosses over with what I do already, but would be a change in role. It's about the same money that I'm on at the moment.

I just submitted Job A and clicked back onto the organisation's job page to double check what they say about timescales of getting back to you etc. Whilst on there I spotted Job B. Job B is the same job that I do at the moment, but with more responsibility and more money - think more of a promotion from my current job than a role change.

I really want Job A but know that my chances are pretty limited as it would involve going into something that I technically haven't done before (although I do feel I've demonstrated how my skills are transferrable to the new job). However, jobs like Job B don't come up a lot and I feel I'd be more likely to get it.

Having already applied to Job A with one organisation, would you apply to Job B? Perhaps if they disregard me for A, they might consider me for B anyway? . If it matters, it's within local government and is a centralised/online form style application.

Hmm, don't know. How much crap did you write to make yourself sound suitable for job A? Grin

Would the job B application be wildly different skills?

I'm thinking if it local government it will be different departments, so they might not even notice. On balance, I'd go for it!

I'd go for it. If they ask, make something up about how much you want to work for them, broaden your horizons, etc etc.

Grin @ canwesee - not too much crap, honest!

It's just that I've written quite a lot about how much I want to cross over into Job A's area that I worry that if someone saw I'd applied for B, it might suggest I'm not as passionate as I'd suggested?

The fact it's not a tiny business though is reassuring me, mind - it's not like the interviewees for the two jobs would be the same.

Oh I can't decide!
