Feel like a horrible mummy because my children aren't fussy

Particularly my son, he only doesn't like raw tomatoes - that's basically it.

Dd started being a bit fussy, but she's grown out of it fast - she's 3 now.

When I meet mums of fussy eaters, they seem to pay so much more attention to their child's like and dislikes and opinions. Is it that bad to be a fussy eater? I know it can be inconvenient.

Is it better to not give them an option? Am I a dragon? Arrrr

I don't get the connection between lack of fussiness and you being a horrible mum? Surely if they're not fussing, all is well? No sense in creating problems where they don't exist.

MidLifeClitoris · 28/09/2014 14:38

Sorry I don't understand why you feel horrible?
Stealth boast?

Smilesandpiles · 28/09/2014 14:38

If they are not fussy it's a good thing.

There's a fine line between paying attention to their likes, dislikes, opinions and pandering.

Mine aren't fussy either, that doesn't mean they are starved of attention from me.

JanineStHubbins · 28/09/2014 14:38

Congrats OP, that's the best stealth boast I've seen in a while Wink

noblegiraffe · 28/09/2014 14:38

No you're lucky.

BIWI · 28/09/2014 14:38

What a bizarre thing to worry/post about! Unless it's a bit of a stealth boast of course Hmm

JumpRope · 28/09/2014 14:39

Not a stealth boast. Maybe I don't listen to them and have quashed their self worth, so the don't tell me...

OP posts:
JumpRope · 28/09/2014 14:39

Pandering always looks so nice from the outside. I think I'm too lazy

LemonadeRayGun · 28/09/2014 14:40

I'm not really following - do you think being fussy is a good thing or a bad thing? Do you think parents paying attention to their children's food habits is positive or negative? Sorry, I don't understand your point.

bronymum · 28/09/2014 14:40

You are a better mother than they are.

Only1scoop · 28/09/2014 14:40

An SB looming around there Grin

Behoove · 28/09/2014 14:40

Stealth boast much? Congratulations on your non fussy children, I'm sure you are a wonderful mummy.
Is that what you wanted to hear?

WanderingTrolley1 · 28/09/2014 14:40

DC1 is a fussy eater.
DC2 isn't and it's fantastic!

Thurlow · 28/09/2014 14:40

Really? You just have kids who like most food. I don't quite get how that's them being ignored?

JanineStHubbins · 28/09/2014 14:41

'Pandering' Grin

This is gonna be great

Username12345 · 28/09/2014 14:41

Yes, you're terrible.

Caff2 · 28/09/2014 14:42

Oh, come off it, OP! This is almost akin to "Oh God! I've failed! My children read voraciously for pleasure, prefer chess to Minecraft, look sad if I suggest we put the telly on and suggest knitting squares for a charity blanket instead of going to the play barn. Where did I go wrong?"

Gruntfuttock · 28/09/2014 14:43

My daughter never went through the "terrible twos" and has never had a tantrum, and both of those things are a completely normal part of a child's development. But I don't feel like a horrible mum, I feel fortunate. She came to no harm because my daughter, who is now an adult of 23, is a a lovely and healthy (mentally as well as physically) young woman

PrimalLass · 28/09/2014 14:44

Stealth smuggery.

Plomino · 28/09/2014 14:44

I wouldn't worry yet tbh , if your DD is 3 , she's got years yet to reach her full potential as a uncowed fussy eater . Wait till she's, ooh 8 or so , then come back.

bigbuttons · 28/09/2014 14:44

You're simply lucky, it's the roll of the dice. How on earth you've managed to make an issue out of this is beyond me.

TheBatteriesHaveRunOut · 28/09/2014 14:45

Some children naturally like food, some are very sensitive about it, and have issues with its smell, texture, appearance etc.

There is little you can do, as a parent, to turn your child from one to the other.

So your non fussy children were born that way, and are not a credit, nor a failure, of your parenting.

imo.

WilburIsSomePig · 28/09/2014 14:46

I'm not sure what you mean OP. I don't get the connection. My DD is not fussy at all and I don't feel horrible, I don't think its got anything to do with me or anything I've done, she just isn't. What exactly do you mean?

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 28/09/2014 14:46

What the fuck? I've heard it all now. Yes you're a shit mum Hmm

Bigoldsupermoon · 28/09/2014 14:46

Am I a dragon? Arrrr

No, but you may be a pirate.
