does anybody else stop and think about this.

Like ( grandmother) nobody would have a dirty front step because it was a sign of a dirty house.

In my day, we didn't have internet that could go anywhere. We had to go home and hope our parents weren't on the phone.

Andrewofgg · 28/09/2014 08:11

In my day we didn't have that email. We had to roll paper up very thin and send it down the telephone wire. Fax, they called it.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 28/09/2014 08:16

Paper? You were lucky. We had to find the nearest hill, light a fire and beat smoke signals with a blanket . . .

GilesGirl · 28/09/2014 08:17

You had fire?!

formerbabe · 28/09/2014 08:19

In my day, we had a cabinet in the hallway which had the sole purpose of holding the yellow pages/numerous phone books/directories!

MardyBra · 28/09/2014 08:20

In my day, nobody put "lighthearted" in a thread title on MN.

MardyBra · 28/09/2014 08:21

And they didn't post non AIBUs in Aibu.

In my day, we knew all of our friends and families house phone numbers off by heart! These days I can't even remember my own mobile no. some days, never mind my DH's or anyone else's!

KatieKaye · 28/09/2014 08:26

Round here it wasn't just washing the front step, but then putting Cardinal red polish onto it as well!
(I found a tin of the stuff in mum's old coal cellar the other week. I'm almost convinced it dates back to the 60s)

deakymom · 28/09/2014 08:43

phone boxes you could use 2p in ive vivid memories of calling my friend from the phone box with a massive tub of 2p pieces!

we still paint our step red!

nappies were warmed by the open fire (and burned slightly occasionally too)

did anyone elses nan put the butter by the fire before she used it?

joanofarchitrave · 28/09/2014 08:44

I knew numbers off by heart but then my home phone number was 280.

askyfullofstars · 28/09/2014 08:53

Youd get repetitive strain injuries to your fingers using the telephone......
