Ds lite, any good?

Dd (5) has seen the DS2 on tv and wants one. I'm thinking a DSLite would suit her fine (price is much better ??.

Does anyone have ine for a child of similar age? Will games be available for it, or is it cheap because it will soon be phased out?

Thanks!

We had one between the three of them (dc's). They're being phased out but you can buy all the games really cheaply online and on ebay, you can get big bundles cheap as well! She'll probably live whatever you get her - 5's a bit young to mind what generation of gadget she gets! Our lot still use theirs - very hardy, doesn't crack or break if accidentally dropped, which the new versions do - and they're nice colours - the pink is especially cuteSmile

Dc use my old ds lite. We're planning on getting a second from Amazon or ebay for Xmas to save some of the arguments. The kids just want to play games so they're not fussed about which one it actually is. Dc are 6 and 4.

The older DS games also work on the newer models so they should be available to buy for a while yet.

my dd is seven and has a ds lite and loves it. if you can get one cheap then I would go for it over the newer models

Sparky, don't worry it isn't a worry of her getting the latest thing at all, I'm just making sure it's a gadget that won't be out of date/have no games available within a year. When I buy gadgets, I want to get a lot of life out of them. She will be oblivious to what generation it is, she just wants to play games :-)

Thanks for all the feedback. I have reported the post to MNHQ, as it was meant to be in chat Blush

My dd had a lite for 5yrs, she now has a 3ds (she is 11) Her sister has the lite now, on its' last legs, but still functions!

mine have had their DS lites for 8 years now and still play on them. The only problem we have had is that when they were young - 4/5 ish a lot of the games were very wordy to start with. So I often had to get them started. Games like the little mermaid - which really appealed to them had so many words they had to be left until they could read.

The only other I would consider is the XL version - not a lot more money and the bigger screen is worth it. Games all compatible.
