Morning all

Firstly sorry I have put this in AIBU for traffic

My wonderful SIL is pregnant :)

But having problems and I could really do with some support and good stories to pass on to her!!

Ok here's the run down SIL knows exactly when she concived 3w and 2 days ago but hospital do dates from LMP so 6w 2 days

SIL has had a small bleed had a scan showing sac nothing inside then HCG levels were 700 re test at 48 hours raised to 900

Docs say this pregnancy will not progress as levels only raised 25% and should double

SIL is having another test today a further 48 hours after the 900 one

I think as they only conceived 3 weeks ago it was to early to see much on scan and that a 900 hcg level.is ok and everyone should just give it time

What do mn think?? Any positive stories or am I just wishing for something for.them that has already passed????

Hiya,

In the majority of successful pregnancies hcg will double every 48-72 hours. The likelihood is, sadly, that your SILs pregnancy isn't going to be successful. However, there are always incidences where things do work out with bad doubling times. Her HCG numbers are on the lower end of the range for days past ovulation too. However, not much is going to tell you what's going on except time. Wishing her the best x

Jengnr · 26/09/2014 09:30

When I had an early pregnancy bleed they wouldn't scan me until seven weeks (from LMP) as they said they wouldn't be able to see anything. Maybe it's that.

Don't know much about the HCG levels though I'm afraid :(

Worryingwombat · 26/09/2014 09:38

I guess I just really want this pregnancy to stick for them!

I have suffered 9 miscarriages over the 7 years it took to have my 3 amazing children my SIL had my nephew then a miscarriage and I really do not want them to have to go through the heart ache again :(

thank you for your replies x

What boysclothes said.

When I had a mc at 9 weeks, I started with only a small bleed. I went to hospital and was told I would likely have a mc and had HCG tests. They couldn't see anything on a scan, but kept monitoring me in case I had my dates wrong. My HCG continued to increase for a couple of days, but not doubling like they expected, and I had a 'full' mc a few days later.

If HCG isn't doubling, I don't think there's much chance, so tbh i'd try not to get her hopes up with any positive stories.

Worryingwombat · 28/09/2014 16:31

My SIL test that day had a reading off 1200

Test 1 - 720
Test 2 - 900
Test 3 - 1200

They are doing another test today I really have my fingers crossed but the numbers just don't seem right has anyone had low numbers before and had a full pregnancy??

Good luck OP, fingers crossed for you all.

jenmcspen · 28/09/2014 18:10

I had blood tests early on and my hcg level was going up steadily but didn't double. I had a scan at around 5 weeks where they could see the sac but nothing else. I was re - scanned a week later and saw a heartbeat Smile The nurse in the early pregnancy unit told me that hcg levels only double in about 85% of cases, so if u r part of the 15% it is not as cleat cut.

Am now 22 weeks pregnant Grin

Hope it all goes okay for ur SIL, I guess is prob wait and see so crossing my fingers for you x

bumbumbee · 28/09/2014 18:33

Good luck op, I have 2 dc and 2 mc's the waiting is awful, I have heard/read good stories and bad ones re low hcg, just really want to say good luck to your SIL

Worryingwombat · 28/09/2014 19:41

Hi Worrying, I really hope this works for your SIL. I don't want to worry you even more, but sometimes when HCG levels are rising but not doubling, it can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy. My advice would be to keep testing and insist on early scans if the numbers continue to rise slowly.

The median hcg level at 25 dpo is around 4500, so her figures do seem a bit low.

Very sorry - I hope I'm wrong :(

Worryingwombat · 28/09/2014 22:23

Don't worry prima the ectopic theory has been mentioned to SIL in fact the 2 outcomes given to SIL today were healthy pregnancy just with low numbers or ectopic :(

I am just keeping everything crossed for tomorrow that they might now a week down the line see something in the sac tomorrow

hoping for the best!

Bulbasaur · 29/09/2014 05:13

When I first got pregnant I bled and my poas came back negative. I thought I was in the clear (DD wasn't planned), until 2 weeks later I still felt funny and did a poas test again. So, it could very well be low hcg levels. Mine were obviously low because I was actually further along than I thought when I got my scan. I thought it would be only 5 weeks, but it turned out to be 7 weeks (which means I was pregnant with bleeding and a negative test).

GreenerthanGrass · 29/09/2014 06:23

I had high (but v slow growing hcg levels). At an early scan we saw one heartbeat and what appeared to be an empty sac- so that was put down as the reason. Next scan 2 heartbeats and I now have twin dc. Really good luck for today!

Worryingwombat · 29/09/2014 12:30

Whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop

Welcome to the wonderful world of being an aunt. You get all the fun without any of the chores (ignores sister pnd when i moved in at her request to care for said children). I can spoil and enjoy her children so you get to be fun aunt. Fingers crossed your sister has a good pregnancy x

coldwater1 · 20/10/2014 09:06

I had similar. I was bleeding, went for an early internal scan, could only see 'tissue' and 'maybe a sac', no heartbeat. Was told it was a missed miscarriage. They took bloods and then again 48 hours later, hadn't doubled. Was told to go back to discuss what to do, i asked for another scan first. Had a repeat scan nearly two weeks later and there was a sac with a little heartbeat! Bleeding stopped and all carried on as normal.
