When it doesn't actually work any more.

I heard the rumours. Found fleas on my dogs on a weekend. So figured it always worked really well before i'll just use it this once. £25

Did it work? Did it fuck!

So today, a week and a bit later i go off to the vets and come out £47 lighter of pocket and armed with a packet of advocate.

It had better fucking work -i had to borrow the money to buy it as dp doesn't get paid til next week. I nearly cried when they said how much it was (to be fair i have two dogs but even so!)

The vets know frontline doesn't work . Loads of people complaining - so please explain to me why you still sell it

In fact why does anywhere still sell it. Its still £25 for a three pack for small dogs.

This particular bunch of fleas has cost me £75AngryConfusedHmm

I used Frontline for ages and then it didn't work. Went to the vets where the snooty cow behind the reception desk said that of course Frontline works, it's highly effective, the rep(!) has never heard of it not working etc but obviously only if you also clean your house, hoover etc! When I asked about alternatives she just defended Frontline and kept telling me to hoover more often as well. Eventually I got Stronghold which I now buy online.
And discovered that lots of other people have also found that Frontline no longer works.

By the way, the nitty gritty nit comb is great on cats!

I was informed that the fleas in Medway are immune to frontline. We aren't in Medway but near it so our dcat (Grin) has Advocat which is effective.

CuttedUpPear · 26/09/2014 06:08

How do you treat your house?

Nohootingchickenssleeping · 26/09/2014 06:14

VetsUK sell Advantage at a very reasonable price. I get that and my Drontal wormers from there. Fleas and worms go and in hand go if you've seen a flea your pet will need a worming tablet.

Once a month for puppies and kittens for worms, every three months for adult pets.

Nohootingchickenssleeping · 26/09/2014 06:15

Hand in hand.*

So, not go*

Majorly sleep deprived.

bebebringingup · 26/09/2014 06:54

Bloody fleas! You need a separate one for ticks, however tick season is almost over....but not quite.

Drugs of any form are horrendously expensive whether for pets or humans and this shows just how much NHS subsidises our prescription.

LEMmingaround · 26/09/2014 06:57

Chicken - that is interesting. We aren't that far from medway ourselves.

Money saving tip: we have two small/medium dogs. We buy advocate for large dogs and then give half each.

financialwizard · 26/09/2014 07:04

Have you tried diatamaceous earth? If you dust it on the pet and rub it in it does work but you do need to do I outside because it is not good to be inhaled.

Should add you can treat your house with it as well.

Stronghold for my two feline girls here. Frontline lead to an infest ion and an allergic reaction to fleas. Moved to stronghold, paid £5 for each prescription and bought online. Still cheaper than the vets and there hasn't been a flea since!

DogCalledRudis · 26/09/2014 07:26

Frontline does not work :(

I used Frontline and it didn't work, but I just assumed it was because I had put it on my water loving Lab and try as I might to keep him out the pool, the bugger sneaked in. I even barricaded the steps where he gets in with poles and a bloody ladder even.... Shock

So I just assumed that it was washed off. The next time I bought Advantage and the only reason I did as its the one that has to be on the shortest time before the dog can get wet. I watched him like a blimming hawk, he did swim before the 24 hours was up... but it worked better than the Frontline.

So I am pleased to find this thread as I didn't know that Frontline wasn't one of the better ones anymore...

Its not even cheaper afaik...

Hatespiders · 26/09/2014 08:16

We are surrounded by fields of various crops, and at the end of the summer our cats sometimes get troubled by 'harvest mites'. I believe these come off the wheat/barley when the combine harvester cuts. They cause skin irritation, scratching and itching. Frontline seems to deal with them and of course the season passes and the mites die off.

Spiders..........(cringe, shudder scream) Gaaaaaah!!! Enormous ones coming in lately, I mean the sort that wear four pairs of football boots. Jet black the size of dinner plates on our bedroom wall. Anyone know of a deterrent spray of some sort? (Such as a nuclear bomb?) My husband has no fear and scoops them up to put outside. Yeeeeew.

OraProNobis · 26/09/2014 08:19

As a matter of interest has anyone ever tried a strongly worded letter of complaint to Frontline? Only if I spent that kind of money on any other product that turned out to be complete rubbish I think I might complain. I have a bit of spare time today - I might just give this a go!

smokeandglitter · 26/09/2014 08:22

Frontline definitely stopped working for me, I did treat the house top to bottom but unfortunately the fleas wouldn't go. On two ragdolls, this was horrific. Advocate worked within a couple of days in conjunction with treating the house for the billionth time. I wasn't using them incorrectly either, I was perfectly used to using it on animals and had worked at a vets.

Ingles2 · 26/09/2014 08:28

Exactly the same.. Was using frontline and ended up with an infestation this year. Swapped to advantage, fleas gone immediately. We are in Kent too.. Not Medway though, in the middle :)

gordyslovesheep · 26/09/2014 08:29

Advocate is the only thing I use - I have a vet plan of £10 month which covers flea and worm treatment

Nit lotion also works btw :)

smokeandglitter · 26/09/2014 08:29

cutteduppear we treat the house with flea spray in stages as the strong stuff you cannot stay in same room as, follow instructions on spray which will say to leave for X amount of time. It needs to go on all fabrics the fleas would have access to. Afterwards Hoover. Don't forget to do under beds etc.
