I don't get it? Can someone explain. The fake laughing audience, rubbish story lines. Everyone seems to love it but me? Why?

It's nostalgia for me - first watched it when I was a teenager & they all seemed so grown up.

Nowadays I can see how daft it is, but I do occasionally catch the end of an episode if I'm waiting for something else to come on & I do giggle sometimes.

whataloadofoldshit · 22/09/2014 19:09

Maybe I need to give it time. DP is next to me cackling and I just don't get it. Am I allowed to say it's crap

LittleBearPad · 22/09/2014 19:10

Because it reminds me of being a teenager. It's pure nostalgia.

I was 24 when it started and identified with lots of it. I still find it amusing.

cherrybombxo · 22/09/2014 19:12

I adore Friends. I have seen every episode a dozen times but still laugh at the jokes every time!

LadyLuck10 · 22/09/2014 19:12

It's funny today and it was funny back then, one of the very few comedy's.
You don't need to understand it, it's not your taste that's fine.

ProfYaffle · 22/09/2014 19:12

I was thinking this the other day. I watched it first time round, when I was in my 20's and living in a shared house so could 'identify' with it to an extent. The first series or so was good but towards the end it went badly downhill.

I don't understand why people enjoy it now though, it looks really dated and unfunny now. I'm not sure why this is popular but no-one raves about Will and Grace or Frasier Confused

scarlettsmummy2 · 22/09/2014 19:13

I don't really get it either! My husband loves it, but I wouldn't ever put it on.

Cantbelievethisishappening · 22/09/2014 19:14

I love it.

TheFilthiestPersonAlive · 22/09/2014 19:15

YANBU. Have never found it funny or particularly original. It's very loved on MN though.

Deathraystare · 22/09/2014 19:15

I know, it was crapola. And if those supposedly beautiful people could not get a date, well.......

My SIL not only watched it all but has ALL the DVDs too. I only liked what was her name? Phoebe? The rest were whiny and annoying.

KnackeredMuchly · 22/09/2014 19:17

Yabu, probably nostalgia as it was during my teens, but I still think it's endearing and funny.

Wasn't it filmed in front of a live studio audience?

cherrybombxo · 22/09/2014 19:17

I should point out, I'm 24 so I didn't even watch it when it was first on and I still love it.

For me, it reminds me of my single days - I was in my 20s when it came out and sort of grew up with it.

I still love it as it's funny and well written. I do think it ridiculous that the cast got paid so much, though.

None of them seem to have escaped the characters they played - perhaps they were victims of their success?

DaddyBeer · 22/09/2014 19:25

IMO it's the humour. And Joey. You do have to get into it, but it is fucking funny really well written once you're in.

Not sure I'd go out of my way to watch it now though - 90's fashion is a bit hard on the eyes these days.

But Joey, the little scamp..

LynetteScavo · 22/09/2014 19:27

It was funny.... I still laugh thinking about the episode where someone ate Ross' sandwich. I think it's best if you watch from the beginning though, rather than dip in to an episode without following the general story.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/09/2014 19:28

I still love Frazier

LittleBearPad · 22/09/2014 19:30

Frasier is fantastic. A lot better than Friends and isn't as dated.

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 22/09/2014 19:31

I love it, have watched every episode a zillion times, still laugh, and sometimes I quote it. It's possible I'm a nobber though.

I never ever 'got' Frazier though. Don't know why.

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 22/09/2014 19:33

Grin Lynnette. "GET OFF OF MY SISTER"

I think you have to be a bit weird to enjoy two grown brothers going crazy over meeting two women who were kitchen designers, basically rubbing their thighs over brushed steel splash backs, etc.

Guilty as charged!
