That there was a "block poster" option?

YANBU.

There are three people I would block.

Obviously, I won't name them. It's nothing to do with their arguments as such; from time to time I agree with them. But they are inevitably aggressive in how they put these arguments across.

Harrin · 20/09/2014 22:47

Yabu because threads won't make sense with posts missing

JanineStHubbins · 20/09/2014 22:47

Apparently there's some secret way, only on a desktop though. I read a post about it a while back, but now have forgotten where!

bellarations · 20/09/2014 22:53

Oh dear velvet hope it's not me! I don't nc but read alot that ppl do.

I wouldn't use a block poster button because the nasty arses usually get put in their place and it's quite satisfying.

ILovePud · 20/09/2014 22:54

I find it genuinely interesting reading posts from people who have very different perspectives to me. My friends and I are a pretty homogenous group and it's fascinating to see how people interpret things differently. Mostly I laugh sometimes I fume and very occasionally I change my mind.

Patrickstarisabadbellend · 20/09/2014 22:55

Yes I would love to block a few twats on here. Grin

PinkSquash · 20/09/2014 22:57

Would it block all future NNs too?

Veritata · 20/09/2014 23:02

I think it's better to call twats out when they are being twatty rather than leaving them to it.

hoobypickypicky · 20/09/2014 23:08

Apparently adding the Greasemonkey script while using Firefox does the trick. Is that what you mean, Janine?

Alisvolatpropiis · 20/09/2014 23:08

No one in particular and I don't doubt I piss people off!

But sometimes I see threads deteriorate rapidly and wonder if it wouldn't be easier to just block posters. Because it always seems to be the same posters.

OP posts:
velvetcloakofsilence · 20/09/2014 23:10

Sometimes though even a polite disagreement gets them unbelievably riled.

It puts me off contributing to some threads (views not particularly controversial) as some will make out you're attacking them personally.

So for example (and I really am using this as an example, views not my own!)
'Some people on benefits do live lives that aren't poverty stricken, so in some cases the government could do with making cutbacks.'
Why do you want my children to starve?

Hard not to be drawn in especially when abusive terms and language are used to address you. Easier to ignore.

squoosh · 20/09/2014 23:11

The only problem is that threads would make less sense if you blocked certain people. Then you'd have to further enrage yourself by going to the bother of unblocking them to see what the feckers were saying.

JanineStHubbins · 20/09/2014 23:11

That's it hooby! Haven't done it myself though.

Alisvolatpropiis · 20/09/2014 23:22

The thing is squoosh, I know almost verbatim what the posters I'd like to bloke would say.

OP posts:
ILovePud · 21/09/2014 00:17

Some posters do seem out to either goad others or just wanting to throw insults, I always wonder whether they're like this IRL or whether they get all their rage out on MN.
