Help - What is the chances of being pregnant - DO NOT want another child!

HillySillySally · 20/09/2014 20:38

NC - I am on Cerrelle mini pill, Just looked at the packet and realised I am a day behind - I know I started it on the right date/day so must have missed a pill one day over last month, no idea when. DH and I have an active sex life, making love most days or every other day at least. I have spent the last couple of days feeling really weird, very tired, hormonal, really oily skin and dizzy at times. Only discovered the pill thing tonight. Of course the answer is to get a pregnancy test tomorrow (can't leave tonight) but the chances are slim right??? I love my 2 dc's to bits but after a really difficult 18mths with dc2 who is delightful but also pretty high needs child, I do not want another child, neither does DH. Feeling sheepishly stupid right now and pretty worried!

Quite unlikely but POAS will tell

HillySillySally · 20/09/2014 20:46

I think I am just panicking and worrying about symptoms I may not have even noticed before! Google doesn't help!

Unlikely, if you've only missed one.

phantomnamechanger · 20/09/2014 20:47

If neither of you want any more children and you both want sex almost every day, then you need a more reliable method of contraception anyway - I would be doubling up - belt and braces as they say, to make sure there were no accidents!

Writerwannabe83 · 20/09/2014 20:49

And if it's a BFN perhaps look at more reliable forms of contraception: Coil, implant, injection, vasectomy Grin

Good luck with POAS - fingers crossed for the BFN Grin

Dr Google, Am I Pregnant?

Grin

Do you have a friend who would bring a PT over for you?

Bulbasaur · 20/09/2014 20:49

Well, make sure it's after when your menstrual cycle should be. Not to scare you, but my first POAS came back negative and I had light bleeding that I thought was my period. Two weeks later I took the second one because I was still feeling weird, it was positive.

But to answer your question, one missed pill shouldn't mess things up too bad.

Itsfab · 20/09/2014 20:51

I haven't been on the pill for years so no idea about them but would you be able to get the MAP tonight or tomorrow and it be helpful?

HillySillySally · 20/09/2014 20:52

I agree about belt and braces from now on! I was on the coil but reacted badly, so only went on pill a couple of months back. DH was going to have a vesectomy but backed out - I suspect as he isn't quite as committed as I to the sticking 2 children!

cerelle is a mini pill though so a missed pill could mean an unwanted pregnancy - a missed pill is one that is over 12 hours late.

From cerelle leaflet:

If you are more than 12 hours late

Take a tablet as soon as you remember, and take the next one at the usual time. This may mean taking
two tablets on the same day. This is not harmful. (If you have forgotten more than one tablet you don’t
need to take the earlier missed ones). You are not protected against pregnancy. Continue to take your
tablets as usual, but you must use an extra method, such as a condom for the next 7 days.
The more consecutive tablets you have missed, the higher the risk that the contraceptive efficacy is
decreased.

AuntieStella · 20/09/2014 20:57

Here is the pack information eaflet for Cerelle

You are unprotected if there is a gap of over 12 hours in the time you take it, and 7 days additional precautions are recommended if that happens.

So I'm sorry, it does sound as if you have been at risk.

HillySillySally · 20/09/2014 20:58

Feel like an utter fool. I am a sensible woman in my 30s, I often comment on posts like this and say use double methods etc. If I was pregnant I know without doubt we would go through with pregnancy - just not sure how I'd cope! I've not had a period since having ds2 who was bf until a couple of months ago - I've had no bleeding on the mini pill at all so impossible to tell where in cycle.

hopefully you are lucky and it has suppressed your fertility enough that you didnt ovulate during the danger period. Fingers crossed for you

AuntieStella · 20/09/2014 21:07

If you have no idea when you might have missed one, use the 'missed pill' protocol (in terms of 7 days additional contraception) now, so if it was less than a week ago, you don't add to the risk.

Then test and cross your fingers for a BFN, but consider testing at intervals for the next couple of weeks

And if BFN, think about whether this omission was out of character, or if you might be better with a LARC.

HillySillySally · 20/09/2014 21:09

Also feels awful writing the post, we always fell pregnant very easily but unfortunately had a total of 6 miscarriages in having our 2dcs. I wrote so many posts on here desperate to be pregnant and stay that way, can't believe I am now writing one to say I hope I am not! Feels utterly irresponsible!

i took my pill a few hours late (as i'd been away and got home 3 hours after my usual time of taking it) im now 15 weeks pregnant. it can happen whether or not you missed one tbh. Just take a test and see x

HillySillySally · 21/09/2014 20:43

Just wanted to report back - PG test was negative - thank goodness! However did prompt a conversation with DH where he admitted not being entirely convinced we should rule out having another child in the future... another discussion for another day I think!

OP posts:
WitchWay · 21/09/2014 22:41

Do another test if you're still feeling weird next week. Glad DH wouldn't rule out another one, so even if you are PG I'm sure it will be fine. Smile

SourSweets · 21/09/2014 23:05

I got pregnant on the mini pill, sorry OP. Take a test when you can and I hope you get the outcome you want.

HillySillySally · 22/09/2014 09:06

Thanks - even though test was negative I'm still a bit worried as very likely it wouldn't show up yet even if I was. Chest is sore today, and got really dizzy again yesterday. The dizzy spells were always the first signs in previous pregnancies... It is not not wanting another child per se, it is just I have only just got ds2 sleeping through the night, I've only just convinced him that feeding off me every 1.5 hours isn't the best form of food, I've only just got him over separation anxiety, etc - I haven't quite recovered yet! We always said we would have two and even if we were to reconsider that, I'm not quite ready to start that again!

I was on the pill had a sickness bug which lasted for around 3 days. We never had sex during that time and I waited until I had taken the pill for 7 days straight with out bringing it back up or flushing it back down until resuming our sex life.

Too late!! I now have a beautiful 14 month old daughter. All because of a dodgy lasagne
