AIBU to think the chemistry rounds on Pointless should actually involve some knowledge of chemistry?

Rather than just memorising the names of the chemical elements?

You may enjoy Only Connect. Smile

Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:05

I certainly do Line :)

or University Challenge

Writerwannabe83 · 19/09/2014 21:05

They are always doing Element based questions, I find them quite annoying.

I also find the anagram round in the head-to-head round particularly stupid. It's usually all about lucky guesses as opposed to knowledge Hmm

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 19/09/2014 21:06

Noooo........I have half a chance if its Periodic Table facts. Purely by regurgitating past answers from the shoe of course, but still.

I have seen one round that was common household acids and their formula and they had to name them which was a bit better but ot was a later round. Round one is always a bit easy.

Plus its always funny when someone gives Unobtainium as an answer Grin

LineRunner · 19/09/2014 21:09

I was musing with DS the other day, that people must earn a living being question setters.

Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:11

That too Shall :) . Paxman even seems to have toned down some his sharper hectoring too, which makes it all more enjoyable.

Writer quite - clearly the contestants have cottoned on to the fact that as long as you memorise the periodic table from about caesium onwards, you're clear.

Think from the shoe ...?

My DH wants me to apply for us to go on it but I'd be crap!! Anything to go with politics, history or geography and I wouldn't have a clue Grin

I have been switching over to The Chase for the last few weeks Smile

Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:15

I think you need to learn European Cup football managers and books Richard has read, and then you'll be good to go Writer .

OP posts:
Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:15

Sorry , Champions League nowadays!

OP posts:
ThinkIveBeenHacked · 19/09/2014 21:16

Sorry should have said Show

LineRunner · 19/09/2014 21:18

Yes,

Football managers
Flags
Periodic table

Never ever pick literature even if you yourself are Jeanette Winterson.

Writerwannabe83 · 19/09/2014 21:18

Well my DH loves sports, he always, always gets a Pointless answer in the final round if the question is sport related.

And I love to read actually - books probably would be one of my best topics!!

Maybe I've been too hasty in refusing to apply lol Grin

LineRunner · 19/09/2014 21:19

Don't do it, Writer. You will asked about the novels of Katie Price.

ClashCityRocker · 19/09/2014 21:21

I have a secret crush in Alexander Armstrong.

It's like the football rounds though - half the time you can get by on knowledge of uk towns and cities.

Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:21

Ah, of course it's show , dozy of me not to realise :).

I was hoping for some knowledge enhancing shoes of my own but now my dreams are shattered :)

Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:22

Xander is dreamy...

I watched for weeks waiting for someone to pick the Spice Girls topic in the final. Finally selected and I got three pointless answers Grin

The pinnacle of my existance!

LineRunner · 19/09/2014 21:24

It also helps to know a little bit of 90s pop music.

iklboo · 19/09/2014 21:26

Xander is luffly. Richard is giant. I had a brilliant time Smile

Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:28

Tennis players of the 80s and 90s will see you through , Writer.

Oh, and some US presidents.

OP posts:
Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:29

OOOh were you on iklboo?

Think my pointless jackpot answers were pre-1950 winners of the Nobel prize for physics.

Given that they've already done that topic, and Half Man Half Biscuit albums are unlikely to come up, there's little point in me even considering applying.

OP posts:
LineRunner · 19/09/2014 21:32

Tracey Austin.

Jimmy Carter.

They always come up.

Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:32

My pointless answers were from the comfort of my own futility room, obviously.
