AIBU to think the chemistry rounds on Pointless should actually involve some knowledge of chemistry?

Rather than just memorising the names of the chemical elements?

Mine would be Roman Emperors.

Go on, test me.

Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:36

I'd have to google them first Line- I only know 3.

Actually no, 5. But they are the 4 everyone knows, and 1 I may have possibly made up.

Go on then - who's your best emperor?

I would fail on pop music post 1955 , football and celebrities.
In other words I would be out in round one. It is still one of only 3 programmes I have set to record as a series :)

Hassled · 19/09/2014 21:38

But my only knowledge of Chemistry is the Periodic Table, as it was in 1982. It looks weird and wrong these days.

I never get to see Pointless, but if Jane Austen features I'd be a clear winner. Does Jane Austen feature?

gordyslovesheep · 19/09/2014 21:39

yabu since it's not a 'chemistry round' its just some general gcse level chemistry questions

ClashCityRocker · 19/09/2014 21:40

Just say Central African Republic to every geography question. That or Mali.

We actually sky plus it Blush and have pointless marathons on a Sunday morning instead of doing housework

JustMarriedBecca · 19/09/2014 21:40

I got Bill Pullman today. Literally bouncing of the ceiling. Best birthday ever.

My specialist rounds would be Tudor or Plantagenet history. Or the life and fashion of Kate Middleton.

Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:41

Jane Austen has featured a few times .

It's not even GCSE chemistry questions though. They never ask about any other chemistry, only the periodic table.

You can't criticise the mighty Pointless!!!!!

Ooo I might just have to sit down for a moment...

gordyslovesheep · 19/09/2014 21:42

yeh it's basic Grin other quizzes exist!

LineRunner · 19/09/2014 21:42

AD 69.

Catsmamma · 19/09/2014 21:45

usually Livermorium for chemistry questions and Burkina Faso OR New Democratic Republic of Congo will see you through for anything geography based.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/09/2014 21:46

I managed to get a degree in Chemistry without ever fully memorising the Periodic Table, I was always defeated by the Lanthanides and Actinides, those don't tend to be the ones that come up though.

Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:46

I bow down to your Emperor knowledge.

And I will take heed of Wikipedia's very stern warning, and I will be sure not not confuse it with the year of five emperors.

I once learned all the landlocked countries of the world from a shower curtain believing I would one day appear on Pointless and this would be the final question.

Hassled · 19/09/2014 21:50

What the hell sort of a shower curtain was that? And how long were your showers?

Inertia · 19/09/2014 21:51

I think the Lanthanides are your best bet for Pointless- I see them as the overlooked dowdy Cinderellas of the periodic table, doing their catalytic chores while the glitzier and more explosive elements steal the limelight.

Aherdofmims · 19/09/2014 21:56

I quite like some of the history questions. They are quite easy compared to other categories, I.e. Standard of knowledge in the subject required is lower.

gordyslovesheep · 19/09/2014 21:59

anyway the answer is always 'The Central African Republic'

LineRunner · 19/09/2014 22:01

Hassled, there's a map of the world shower curtain. We had it up for years.

Panzee · 19/09/2014 22:03

I got the pointless Madonna single today. :o

LineRunner · 19/09/2014 22:11

Borderline?
Live to tell?

Panzee · 19/09/2014 22:11

Who's That Girl!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 19/09/2014 22:12

Trinidad and Tobago is always a good answer to give when the Central African Republic has been taken.

LineRunner · 19/09/2014 22:14

Although not for landlocked Afican countries.
