To think most robotic type toys are crap and have very little play value?

Ds (5) has seen a Zoomer Boomer advertised somewhere. He hasn't specifically mentioned christmas (as only September) but I fear that will be the next logical step to 'oooh I like that mommy.'

And indeed they are shown as being almost real and this one is a dinosaur. What small child would not love a cute little dinosaur? Especially my dinosaur obsessed 5 year old.

However I know, I just know, that it would be played with about twice and then ignored.

Aibu to think these sorts of toys are all the same? They're similar to those animated soft toys you see. Limited play value. I'm also looking at you Furby.
I generally think that toys which can only really be played with in one way have limited value. This one retails at £100!

My brother used to have Zoids (do I remember correctly?), the best ones were the ones you had to build (they were a mix of wind up / batteries). You could take them apart though. The modern toys like this have limits as taking them apart is futile (unless stripping down to circuit boards and moving components to make your own crazy inventions).
Furby? Horrid things.
Maybe a build it set that also moves? But the market for that is despairingly thin.

YANBU. So many toys nowadays seem to be 5 minute wonders which call for little imagination or creativity on the part of the child. I also hate those collections of Barbie dolls where you have a separate doll for each outfit. Daft. What's wrong with having one doll and changing her in and out of different clothes and even making clothes for yourself. We used to make great bridal outfits for our Sindy dolls using toilet roll Smile

Sorry , clothes for the doll yourself. Not suggesting any posters get married wrapped in Andrex or Velvet soft toilet roll.

YANBU.
They're shite. Kids get bored with them very quickly. And the sounds they make are absolutely annoying.

We didn't have nearly as many toys when we were kids as children seem to nowadays. But what we had was played with over and over and used in loads of different ways. I think a lot of toys nowadays are a complete waste of money, played with two or three times and then forgotten about.

We bought the Kota triceratops ride on animatronic toy - rubbish play value. Then we got various robotic dinosaurs that get used once or twice. The last was a realistic skinned baby diplodocus that wa supposed to be like having a real baby dinosaurs. All I can say is no wonder they are extinct. Total waste if money and too delicate for the age range suggested. My kids are finally into Lego so at least they get to use imagination now.
