Bloody Referendum

I am bracing myself for a barrage of hate...
...but, will any one else be glad when it's over?!

And no, I'm not from Scotland.

BardarbungaBardarbing · 18/09/2014 11:24

Oh yes.

MehsMum · 18/09/2014 11:24

I will be THRILLED when it's over.

I am so sick of turning on the radio and hearing nothing but referendum referendum referendum when I have no vote and no say. I KNOW it matters n'all, but I had the World at One on the other day, and of 45 minutes of news, 38 was in dry ref. FFS, give me a break! There is other stuff going on out there, but I couldn't tell you what because I have given up on the radio... (and we don't get a paper and the BBC website is full of dross and I rarely watch TV; I shall have to wait for The Week to come out tomorrow.)

Phew. I feel better for that. I'm going back to that nice tea-and-cake thread a found a minute ago, with a real brew and a real slice of cake!

PS Scotland, please do exactly as you like. I don't envy you trying to continue with a population split neatly down the middle.

MehsMum · 18/09/2014 11:25

Argh, autocorrect Not dry ref, indy ref.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 18/09/2014 11:25

Thanks for your permission to do as we like.

No hate here, just a bit sad people don't appreciate the significance of this and think their tea and cake is more important.

neiljames77 · 18/09/2014 11:28

If it's a yes, will I need to show my passport when I visit?

ffsindyref · 18/09/2014 11:28

I appreciate the importance, but it's bloody dull when you get no say in the matter.

YABU

This is what democracy looks like. People talk, debate, get passionate.

We spend most of out lives hearing about the English - we hear about your schooling (doesn't apply here), your law (doesn't apply here), your wars (unfortunately does affect here) and most of all about your bloody weather (very rarely applies here).

I am sure (sadly) it will be a no vote, then you can go back to ignoring us Scottish like you have done for the last couple of hundred years.

After all, why should you care about the Scottish? Its not like we've ever done anything for you (Grand Pianos, pin numbers, television, toasters, gin, chicken tikka masala, refrigeration, penicillin , golf, mri scanners.....)

neiljames77 · 18/09/2014 11:37

Correct me if I'm wrong or have been mis-informed but I was told we subsidise the Scots to the tune of £1300 per person per year.
I could use that extra cash. (unless Mr Cameron decides to keep it)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 18/09/2014 11:38

definitely not, more like other way round.

ffsindyref · 18/09/2014 11:39

ffallada good point.

Thanks for the gin.

Sonnet · 18/09/2014 11:43

It is history in the making, a very significant time and despite what you think it does affect the English. So, in short, YABU
ps - I am not Scottish

ffallada · 18/09/2014 11:44

NeilJames you are mis-informed. Fanjo is right.

If the English paid as much attention to us as we have to do to you guys, you might not be so mis-informed.

Mr Cameron is so keen to keep the Scottish because we are economically very beneficial for the Union. Or did you think he was doing it cause he loves shooting deer on his parents-in-laws vast estates on Jura? (or could it be both?)

OwlCapone · 18/09/2014 11:46

It is history in the making, a very significant time and despite what you think it does affect the English. So, in short, YABU

And yet we have absolutely no say in it. Not that I actually think we should, but I am now bored by all the stuff about something which might affect me but in which I have no say whatsoever. I'll be glad when it is over one way or the other

OP, YANBU.

LarrytheCucumber · 18/09/2014 11:47

Cameron also needs to keep the Scottish for the sake of his own political career.

KidLorneRoll · 18/09/2014 11:48

Turn the TV off then. It's not hard.

ffsindyref · 18/09/2014 11:51

Ok Kid. I'll turn off the TV, Radio, stop reading the newspaper and avoid all social media. I'll just stay in my bedroom.

OP posts:
ilovepowerhoop · 18/09/2014 11:53

its bloody dull for me too and I live in Scotland. Sick to death of the tripe on facebook too

ffsindyref · 18/09/2014 11:54

Never thought I would say this but I miss those god awful cat videos and photos of people's coffee.

OP posts:
KidLorneRoll · 18/09/2014 11:54

Aye, because that's exactly what I'm saying.

It's not hard to avoid the coverage. I have done so quite successfully for the last week. You just avoid the first 10 minutes of the news and you skip the first few pages of the papers and perhaps scroll past a few facebook posts. Oh, the hardship.

OwlCapone · 18/09/2014 11:54

Meh. I mute thE TV or radio and hide the MN threads. I'm still allowed an opinion as to whether I'm fed up with it all. I feel the same about any voting which does not concern me. Obviously it has to be reported but I don't have to be interested.

Corabell · 18/09/2014 11:54

Oh, the irony of starting a thread which then leads to more referendum chat.

If your think the run up was annoying then watch out for the post match analysis.

Corabell · 18/09/2014 11:55

*you

EllasMum16 · 18/09/2014 11:55

It's the suspense that's driving me up the wall, and fear of what will happen afterwards that's making me look forward to it being over. British (English) here, don't want to lose Scotland but if I was a Scot myself I would probably vote yes.

BardarbungaBardarbing · 18/09/2014 11:57

op you have given me a laugh with the photo's of coffee.

Is that what I'm missing on the Facebook!

doobledootch · 18/09/2014 11:58

I don't get the Scottish 'your wars' comment, all recent conflicts were entered into by a labour government with a strong representation of Scottish MPs. You can't just blame everything you don't like in life on the English.
