To think the Scottish tourism industry is going to be hugely affected by the referendum, whatever the outcome

Just been reading some of the indyref threads and it made me think about the affect on Scottish tourism, mainly from English tourists,

I know it's only one factor in the grand scheme of things but it seems damned to me whatever the result.

There is such an anti English sentiment at the moment I don't think many English people will be rushing up there for a holiday will they?

I got called a porridge wog at Alton towers this summer. Awful term.

EarthWindFire · 17/09/2014 21:13

I think people have to be aware that just because they haven't seen it, it doesn't mean it isn't going on or to minimise what people have been through.

Likeaninjanow · 17/09/2014 21:13

I'm sure everyone can think of an example or two of bad behaviour. This is not a reflection of the country.

My husband was called a scottish bastard & told to fuck off. I didn't decide there is anti-scottish feeling across England. I just though the man was an idiot.

I live in scotland, in a city. There is no anti-English sentiment. I have seen no vandalism. People are having a war of words on social media, and that's s far as it goes.
Do not believe everything in the media. I'm really quite raging with them.

Silverdaisy · 17/09/2014 21:13

I'm Scottish, I've not heard any anti English sentiments either. I don't doubt there are some idiots who may say some thing. I would put them in the minority.

I have heard radio phone ins that have had English people being anti Scottish, and quite rude.

As a rational person I have decided they are in the minority also.

Unfortunately no matter the country, you are not safe from some people talking rubbish.

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/09/2014 21:15

That is awful, Lovely. I've never heard anything like that. But as I said people's experiences are not the same, bu that doesn't make them not real all the same.

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 17/09/2014 21:16

I get called a 'sweaty' regularly down here, how lovely! Also plenty comments about being tight with money, impersonations of my accent, lots of stupid shit like that. I think it's a bit strong to call any of this 'racism'. No one is being segregated here.

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/09/2014 21:16

Denying it happens is really vile though. Acknowledging the existence of bad apples is important on both sides.

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/09/2014 21:17

What is a "porridge wog"? I have never heard that term before.

It is interesting hearing about the discomfort of people who have experienced anti-English sentiment.

I have been on the receiving end of anti-Welsh sentiment at the hands of English people. You know "sheep shagger" etc.

Suppose there's arseholes everywhere, isn't there.

EarthWindFire · 17/09/2014 21:17

Do not believe everything in the media. I'm really quite raging with them.

I don't. I have seen the vandalism for myself, as have others on these threads.

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/09/2014 21:17

What's Sweaty got to do with race/nationality? Hmm Why would you call anyone that? Genuine question.

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/09/2014 21:18

Earth You're are denying/ minimising. Those were my direct experiences.

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 17/09/2014 21:19

Cockney rhyming slang. Sweaty sock = 'jock'

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/09/2014 21:20

Alivo in my experience only thick twats would say that and so are probably too thick to realise, it means something!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2014 21:21

When I went to uni in England people routinely thought it hilarious to refer to me as Jock every time they spoke to me.

Some people thought it was affectionate to call me the 'Scottish tart'..I was in no way promiscuous.

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/09/2014 21:21

That's awful Secret.

Likeaninjanow · 17/09/2014 21:21

Earth, I'm not saying you didn't see some vandalism. I'm saying it's very much in the minority & is isolated to certain areas and mentalities.

It's not the norm. Not by a long way.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2014 21:22

No one has denied it happens.

What I said was..it is not what the desire for independence is about.

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 17/09/2014 21:22

I really really REALLY hate being referred to as a jock. Or a 'scotch'. Grin

EarthWindFire · 17/09/2014 21:24

Earth You're are denying/ minimising. Those were my direct experiences.

How have I minimised it happened?

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/09/2014 21:24

A scotch is a drink, not a person. People are so dumb. I'm sorry to all those who have experience idiocy. Fanjo, they have, on here and other threads.

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/09/2014 21:25

Earth Do not believe everything in the media.

Madeyemoodysmum · 17/09/2014 21:27

I was considering Edinburgh for our wedding anniversary. Have been before and liked it.
However now we are seriously considering a English or Welsh city

TheBogQueen · 17/09/2014 21:28

Well as someone who is trying to book a bloody holiday cottage somewhere in Scotland for next summer - I can safely say that tourism is fine... Because they are all booked up!

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 17/09/2014 21:29

So what you're saying is you haven't booked a holiday in Scotland, and instead you haven't booked a holiday in Wales or England either? Dun dun dunnnnnnnnn!

Silverdaisy · 17/09/2014 21:29

But why madeye?
