When in the UK at the moment pensions aren't affordable and should of been reformed decades ago. It can't go on people having 20-30 of a state pension.

Eh? of = have

sarahighseas · 15/09/2014 18:08

English is an evolutionary language

When YOU write it, yes it is. I don't understand your question at all. Please put it in non-evolutionary language to make it simpler !

Get off your high horse Arabella.

I suspect, OP, it's a big bag o'lies, much like a lot of the other promises....

BOFster · 15/09/2014 18:18

I'm not being snippy, but what does 20-30 mean? I don't understand the question.

They can promise it and deliver it they just need to find the money somehow either cutting it from elsewhere or raising more for example by raising taxes.

ArabellaTarantella · 15/09/2014 18:27

Get off your high horse Arabella

I don't understand the question - what 'high horse' about that?

Sorry, TheFamily, I apologise profusely for too many dots.....................!

DontDrinkAndFacebook · 15/09/2014 19:17

I don't understand the question and I don't think 'of' is an acceptable evolutionary replacement for have.

TalkingintheDark · 15/09/2014 19:17

I want that mug.

Patrickstarisabadbellend · 15/09/2014 19:19

Why do do many threads end up being about fucking grammar and spelling?

DontDrink - do you want to come and hide in the cupboard with me..................'cos they'll be after you, too, if you're not careful Smile

Zacapa · 15/09/2014 19:21

It is completely unsustainable. Striking over pensions is understandable, there's loads of worries. But I fear the SNP and other parties just CAN'T safeguard pensions. We can't afford it.

merrymouse · 15/09/2014 19:22

Yes, I think that marketing Scotland as a low tax zone and guaranteeing state pensions does seem a bit odd.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/09/2014 19:28

There are multiple issues to consider with pensions in the event of a Scottish split:

  1. Current state pensioners who are already receiving their state pension. I think they would continue with the UK
  2. People who have not yet reached state pension age. Your NI contributions give you eligibility to whatever the state pension is at the time you retire. But there is no pot - the money isn't saved. Those currently working and paying NI are paying the pensions of those currently retired.
  3. Whether to raise state pension age - SNP have said they might not follow the UK but that would cost. Scotland does have lower life expectancy
  4. Scotland has a population which is ageing faster than that of the UK. This makes the state pension less sustainable as there are going to be fewer people of working age to pay the pensions. This is why the SNP are pro immigration.
  5. also issues to consider with other pension schemes - EU rules require cross border schemes to be fully funded. Many aren't so companies would either need to fund them (expensive) or split (also expensive to do)
chemenger · 15/09/2014 19:35

But I'm sure I heard Alex said this would all be fine.....surely that could only be the gospel truth? Next you'll be saying North Sea oil is not going to last forever.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/09/2014 19:36

Well I just heard Alex say his maths teacher had done well to get him through his Higher, so....Grin
