To be annoyed that DH is refusing to take my cake into work

..... Because it's too childlike

It's a practice run for my son bday party. Ok so it's not great, a bit soggy but really it's sodding chocolate cake -surely it can't be that embarrassing to take into work.

AIBU to be offended

Seem to have spent all weekend arguing with DH

Sorry - penisesareNOTpink. Blush

Brightbutchilly · 14/09/2014 19:48

Sorry OP it was Penises who made the family comment, I should have name checked her in my reply.

Our posts also crossed in the ether.

LadyLuck10 · 14/09/2014 19:48

If it's soggy is it even baked properly. I wouldn't be taking that to a nursery of all places. Eat it yourself or bin it.

Brightbutchilly · 14/09/2014 19:49

Put a photo of cake on FB and offer it free to the first person who will come get it. Problem solved!

Albertatata · 14/09/2014 19:50

Just had to retread whole thread to see that some else posted the 'who we are as a family'. Remark.

It's in the sodding bin now - yes I'm childish.

Anyone got any good chocolate cake recipes - I've got to make a Spider-Man chocolate cake for my sons party next week

Soggy cake can be nice.

ChillySundays · 14/09/2014 19:50

Wouldn't last five minutes where I work. It would have to be really awful to not get eaten

Albertatata · 14/09/2014 19:51

All of a sudden DH seems a bit like Paul Hollywood ....

You threw away cake??!! Cake Surely that's a crime?!

plinkyplonks · 14/09/2014 19:55

Mmmm cake :D - Nothing constructive to add :)

People bring cake into our office all the time, all cake is definitely welcomed :D

Lifesalemon · 14/09/2014 19:57

You've thrown it away! Shock
VVVUR!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 14/09/2014 19:57

Use Mary Berry's recipe, it's dead easy and very good.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 14/09/2014 19:58

Just google it btw. Her Victoria sponge cake is good too.

2minsofyourtime · 14/09/2014 19:58

Sainsburys so a nice spiderman man one if you change your mind about making one

2minsofyourtime · 14/09/2014 19:58

Do

bloodyteenagers · 14/09/2014 19:59

Wow. So it was either lumber him with cake or chuck it in the bin. Nursery. Friends. Hostel. Family. Homeless person. Food kitchen... None of these entered your thoughts. Just either foist it upon his work mates or chuck in bin. What a ridiculous waste of a weekend and food.

Fenton · 14/09/2014 20:01

I think you are making too much of this. There could be many sensible reasons why he doesn't want to take it in to work, and some of perhaps he's thinking of your feelings?

Controlled explosion. Definitely the way to go.

HaroldLloyd · 14/09/2014 20:02

Jesus poor OP, half the thread telling her it was inedible and now the other half starts giving her beef for throwing it in the bin.

HaroldLloyd · 14/09/2014 20:02

Get one from. Marks. Stress free!

SelfconfessedSpoonyFucker · 14/09/2014 20:04

Is it a stacked or moulded chocolate cake or is it a flat cake? If it is a flat cake use this one

thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2007/06/the_best_chocol/

My family calls this cowboy cake and it is the best evah. I never use buttermilk, my recipe calls for milk (preferably full fat) and white malt vinegar. I have never had any left, if there is, usually there are people asking to take it home.

When I decorate it, I make the icing up without nuts and put a thin layer on first. Icing can be stored in tub in fridge andeatenlike_fudge and used for another cake.

morerogermore · 14/09/2014 20:06

Nigella chocolate cake has always worked for me (www.nigella.com/recipes/view/old-fashioned-chocolate-cake-119)

Well done OP - I know it is sad to throw away a cake.

HaroldLloyd · 14/09/2014 20:07

Did you say a few words over the bin? Sad

morerogermore · 14/09/2014 20:08

ps if you make another slightly rubbish cake then take it to a baby group for the mums to eat - they will all love you forever!

HouseAtreides · 14/09/2014 20:08

The only cake I have ever made that was not eaten was a sugar free bananananana loaf. It was like sliced damp cardboard.
Without fail every thread I have read this weekend has had at least one poster saying "WOW OP. Regardless of what you have done or what your intentions were, you are a cunt and deserve to be put in the stocks and pelted with broken glass because you are SHIT".
It feels that way anyway! So much po faced grumpy disapproval!

hedwig2001 · 14/09/2014 20:15

Google "Mary Berry Can't go wrong chocolate cake". I always make it for my son's birthday cake. It is awesome and really easy. I make double the amount of icing, as we are indulgent.
