To throw this toy away?

My DC have been repeatedly told not to throw balls in the house. Earlier today, my 9year old DS threw a bouncy ball in the sitting room, which rebounded and hit the TV screen. WIBU to pick it up, take it outside and drop it into the wheelie bin? I think not, but he is now carrying on that it was his "favourite toy ever" annd that I'm "the most horrible Mummy in the whole wide world"...

Bin it or ban it for a month. One could ask why it was in the house though?

If you and warned them that you was going to throw it away if they carried on then no YANBU. If not then I think you was being slightly U.

He's 9, he should have known better.

Yep .Throw it in the bin. He'll learn to listen to you in futire.

Iggly · 14/09/2014 16:57

Leave balls outside. So put it into the garden and he can only have it there. I'd never have a bouncy ball inside! Too much temptation.

MrsPiggie · 14/09/2014 17:00

Yanbu - but I would never have the heart to do it

LilacCroc · 14/09/2014 17:00

Like a pp, if you had warned him of the consequence then yanbu. If you just put it in the bin with no warning, yabu.

losthermind · 14/09/2014 17:01

I don't allow bouncy balls full stop!!! They cause nothing but trouble, all other balls are kept in the garden they aren't for indoor use

LadyLuck10 · 14/09/2014 17:39

Throw it away. At age 9 he's old enough to listen to you.

mrspremise · 14/09/2014 17:50

It was 'in the house' because he'd ignored an earlier warning from me (i.e. earlier today) about balls in the house. He's been sulking, but came back downstairs to join in a game of Pass the Pigs with the rest of us, so peace seems to have been restored...

YANBU definitely old enough to know the rules.

Gatehouse77 · 14/09/2014 18:09

YANBU

Mine have been told you can only throw balloons and tantrums in the house. All ball play is for outdoors. They would get a warning about any specific consequence and then I follow through.

A golden rule of parenting here is "Don't make empty threats or promises".
