to think that you should tell your neighbours about massive bonfire?

NDNs just lit a huge bonfire in their garden (right by the fence with my garden). I was sitting in the living room and the first I knew about it was when I breathed in the fumes.

The back door was open, with washing on the line. I'm very asthmatic (NDN knows this) and I've had to take emergency inhalers.

I know it's not major, but I'm really pissed off. Washing will have to be re washed and I'll be ill for a good few days.

HmmConfused

We have people 2 doors down who can be guaranteed once a fortnight to light a massive stinking fire in the middle of the day, normally just as my line is full of washing or when all the windows and doors are open or twice over the holidays when we had just set up a picnic lunch in the garden!!!

Drives me mad and there is nothing you can do about it either. They just don't care, I've seen them watch their NDN put a whole line of washing out and then light a fire as they've walked back inside.

GermanHouseCat · 13/09/2014 19:22

In all honesty, what is the fucking point of bonfires anyway? Maybe if you have land and associated stuff to dispose of, but we live in terraced houses with small gardens!

My chest feels so tight, I am so cross.

This exact thing happened to me last night. I was bloody fuming.

My house still stank of their bloody fire this morning and my washing that I was drying IN THE HOUSE stank as well! I also had a banging headache from the smoke all night.

We're in terraces too and our gardens are all close together.

Rude inconsiderate people!

NeedsAsockamnesty · 13/09/2014 19:34

It's really rather rude and inconsiderate.and if they do it lots you can ask the LA to take action against them

PunkrockerGirl · 13/09/2014 20:43

Very rude and inconsiderate. Like our bastard neighbours and their rank and disgusting bbqs. Lovely weather this week, had a much needed week off work. Sat in the garden. Next doors dog barked and whined all day. Late afternoon the bastarding bbq started up on the other side. Every sodding day.

Sorry to hijack your post OP.

Purplecircle · 13/09/2014 20:46

Could you ask them nicely to let you know before they light it so you can bring washing in and close windows?

LadyLuck10 · 13/09/2014 20:47

Yanbu, bloody inconsiderate of them.

YellowTulips · 13/09/2014 20:47

I feel for you OP.

Personally I just don't think people should be allowed to light dangerous fires in their garden.

It's hugely polluting in a residential setting and the main reason is that people can't be arsed to go to the tip.

wheresthelight · 13/09/2014 20:50

most councils have rules about when it is ok to set a fire (after 6pm here) and although considerate there is actually nothing that says they have to tell you unfortunately.

yanbu to be miffed but unfortunately there is probably nothing you can do about it

GermanHouseCat · 14/09/2014 00:15

To be fair, we've lived here for a couple of years and this is to my knowledge the first bonfire. But we were obviously at home, backdoor wide open, lawnmower on shortly before, washing on line etc, that it just seems so lazy to not even shout over the fence.

I'm really wheezing with asthma now and could be ill for a couple of weeks. I have to actively avoid all BBQs, bonfire night etc for this very reason and now my whole house stinks of bonfire smoke.

I should've had Wine tonight.

They are Bonfire Bastards. My neighbourhood is full of them. Fuck knows what they are all burning. The tip is all of half a mile away. I'd drive the fuckers there myself to avoid the toxic stench polluting my bedrooms, but they wouldn't think to mention that they're about to set light to a massive heap of shit.

GermanHouseCat · 14/09/2014 00:44

Brecon, "bonfire bastards" made me GrinGrin

Why don't you write them a note and explain what the consequences have been for you?
