To ask if you get a Christmas bonus, and if you do how big a percentage of your salary is it?

I found out tonight that my brother gets a whole months salary as a Christmas bonus. When I worked I got absolutely nothing. I always thought that getting nothing was normal. Or is everyone else out there getting loads of Christmas treats from their boss?

NHS. In the first trust I worked for we each got a £50 love to shop voucher and a half day off for Christmas shopping. In my current position the managers club together and get us either a daffodil bulb or a sparkly tea light. Smile Smile

I don't get a Christmas bonus, but we do get an annual bonus at the end of the tax year. It's dependant on performance, but is usually equivalent to about two months wages.

Performance based - usually aorund 10% of salary. Private, global company.

ShadowStar · 13/09/2014 00:25

No Christmas bonus.

But we do get to go home at lunchtime on Christmas Eve, so an unofficial half day holiday if you're at work then (but if you want the morning off too you have to book a whole days holiday). And we get a free Christmas party.

I give my cleaner £120 extra pay (two weeks pay) at the beginning of December.

rabbiteyes · 13/09/2014 01:47

I'm a carer and get an extra £10 (on top of my £60pw).

DespicableMeh · 13/09/2014 01:49

No bonus, but we do get Xmas party (booze and stuff). Our annual bonus is paid in March and has been very generous the last couple over years so much so I had to get my boss to repeat himself four times when he was telling me during a call (as I couldn't make it into the office that day)

Agrestic · 13/09/2014 01:57

I get £20pm depending on performance. I work Christmas day, boxing day and NYE for time and a half... Everything in between normal rates apply.

neiljames77 · 13/09/2014 02:03

I've been told I'll get just over £1k. Smile

GertrudeBrisket · 13/09/2014 02:17

DH gets 10% on top of his salary end end of financial year and 5% of salary at xmas (works 50-60 hr week in large law firm) although it ends up a lot less than that after tax. We usually use the mid-year bonus to book our January family holiday.

I work for a public sector organisation and get zip. But then again I have a lot of family-friendly flexibility and don't work nearly as long hours although we are both technically full time.

HicDraconis · 13/09/2014 04:03

Pico2 because our HR system is computerised. So I entered 5 extra hours on a public holiday, didn't get paid for them but had 5h public holiday time in lieu entered on my leave allowances. The system coughed up an invoice for overpayment of tax based on that. I have no idea how or why, but I queried it and was told it was my fault for trying to claim for hours I wasn't contracted to work.

I wasn't scheduled to be on call Boxing Day, someone else was. But they were in and working all day - and I was called in as an extra. Still haven't been paid for it, but I didn't pay their invoice either.

however · 13/09/2014 04:06

Used to be anything from 7 - 15% depending on company performance.

purplemurple1 · 13/09/2014 04:44

45% but I work for myself and I'm better off having a lower wage and higher bonus.

Pastperfect · 13/09/2014 04:57

No Christmas bonus but end of (financial) year bonus. Amounts to about 4 mths basic salary.

OutragedFromLeeds · 13/09/2014 05:03

It differs from job to job, but I've always had something, from a £50 voucher up to a weeks wage plus presents.

I've also always had a good stretch of time off, usually the whole of the school holidays (so anywhere from 19th Dec to 6th Jan, depending on where Christmas falls).

I'm a nanny.

UncleT · 13/09/2014 05:52

No bonus, Christmas or otherwise.

splendide · 13/09/2014 05:54

Nothing at Xmas although we go out for a very nice lunch. 10% at end of financial year.

Flumpf · 13/09/2014 06:16

I get nothing. The company used to give staff a free Christmas dinner in the staff canteen, but not even that any more. dh works for John Lewis, and they get a bonus every year, usually around March.

AwkwardSquad · 13/09/2014 07:14

Public sector so no bonus. Which is fair enough, it's public money. However, this year, we do have the fun and excitement of potentially losing our jobs at Christmas! Yay.

AntoinetteCosway · 13/09/2014 07:19

A friend of mine is a manager for John Lewis and gets incredibly generous bonuses. DH works in finance and doesn't get one (boo). We give our cleaner an extra week's wages, which is £15 and all we can afford!

Fishstix · 13/09/2014 07:27

New job this year...gets four bonuses a year...in line with performance. This year they have been a very useful boost to our finances and we have savings for the first time.
Don't come at Christmas, but in jan, which is great as we'd just spend them on crap we don't need otherwise! :)

seaweed123 · 13/09/2014 08:25

I can get up to 2% as profit share scheme - dependent on performance (mine, plus department, plus company overall).

It's the first time I've had anything, so not complaining. But management do annoy me by acting like it's the sort of bonus you could pay off your mortgage with, rather than just do the Xmas food shop.

Iggly · 13/09/2014 08:27

I work in the public sector.

I get a pay cut (in cash terms) and more work due to redundancies. I already work weekends and evenings. Then get told I should be grateful for my generous package Hmm
