World gone mad - so many horrible things in the news at the moment

Maybe I'm just reading more newspapers but I just feel that the world is particularly depressing right now. Not just internationally but just locally today there have been suicides, rape, attempted murder and a shooting. I don't live in a city and would say that I live in a nice low crime area apparently (although reading the news I'm not sure anymore) Things just seem to be particularly bad at the moment or perhaps I should just stop reading and watching news altogether. God, I know - I dwell on this kind of thing and wonder why there is so much cruelty in the human race.

Although it's good to know what's going on in the world it can be depressing too; and if the news is affecting you too much then it's a good idea to step back and stop watching it until you feel better.

That's what i did when i felt depressed about the world - i just stuck to reading celebrity magazines and only gradually started listening to the news again when i felt ready.

I try to look at the good things happening around me; for example people recovering well from operations; people helping each other out; charity work etc. and remember that these good things generally don't make the news; only bad things seem to make the news which makes those bad things seem out of proportion.
